Thanks man,
I was planing on getting a hold of you as well.I already asked this ? and got some answers.I plan on a 40 gallon breeder tank for zoo's and mushrooms. It's short I think 18" what lighting would you use?I was told a 250w MH with actinics was a good idea,I just want to make sure it's right. Before I buy anything. What would you use on a 55 gallon?
Do you sell your zoo's/poly's???

55 gallon id go with two 150's halides.
On my 26 gal I have a 250 watt halide with 2 65 watt actinic PC bulbs...
So with a 40 breeder id def go with the 250 hlaides fixture with some PCs. Is this just a frag tank or a DT? DT tank id get a 14k bulb. If a frag tank id go with a 10k bulb IMO...
And yeah I sell a few everynow and then!

I was wondering as well, how many hours do you leave the lights on?And do you set the actinics to a different time?
Thanks,
Cory

My acitnic comes on at 10 30 am and then daylights come on at 12 pm and daylights go off at 8pm and actinics go off at 10. and then the moonlights come on.
Ill light someone else give you their opinion on best light brand. Theres so many diff fixtures though. Just look around and try to find the best deal

Thanks,
Actinics go off when day come on?
I have plenty of other ? so i'll try to get a hold of you in the future.
I was told the only filtration need in my mini reef was sump/refugium,protein skimmer and live rock is this correct?I like second opinions.
Thanks,
Cory

nah my actintc just stay runnin the whole day...
And yeah thats pretty much all there is to filteration. The more live rock the better off you are. On my 26 gal I only have a HOB filter and lots of flow and live rock. But I recommend doing a sump. When I move Ill set one up for it then more than likely.

IS YOUR NAME FLRICORDIA? HUH?

I agree but what are you wanting to frag and grow? 2 250wt might be a much for zoanthids and palys, more so for palys. Would be great for ricordea florida and sps, and up a bit higher for LPS. Witht he 250s the palcement will goive you many different options on what you are wanting to keep. Think about what it would take to keep it cool too though with 2 250wt sitting on top.

I think I got the setup now.My 40 gallon breeder a 10 gallon refugium,protein skimmer,lots of live rock,and a 250watt 14,000k mh with actinics.This will work for zoo/poly.Will it work for ricordea florida's?
The only other thing I have planed is a pair of clowns.
Are hermits or shrimp a good idea?
Also i plan on using a 300gph overflow down to my refugium. What size return pump do I need(gph). The overflow goes into the protein skimmer compartment is that correct?Do I need to control the flow out of the overflow and with what?
Thanks so much,
Cory

I would venture a 500gph pump and put a valve on it back to the tank so you can resrict flow if needed. No restriction needed on the overflow.
Hermits might irritate frags or knock them over. What would you need shrimp for in a frag tank? Personally I wouldn't have fish in a growout frag tank, but don't think there is anything relly wrong with it. Fish=feedings which can go both ways. Excess food and fish waste can actually feed corals, but can also result in lower quality water without proper filteration. You should hold off on fish for a couple months and go slow with adding any.
Better if yo are doing a frag growout tank to 86 the fish and target feed the corals, focusing on them and their needs, at least to start off.
But I may have missunderstood yo and you had not planned on a growout tank.

Thanks I plan on this tank just for a display tank.I like those ricordea mushrooms, there very interesting.I've only seen them on this site,so very cool.
How do I know if theres to much flow going back into the tank?
Do you sell zoo's/poly's,and ricordea's?
Thanks alot,
Cory

How do I know if theres to much flow going back into the tank? ANd you make sure the return line to the display is above water level or jsut below so if power outage doesn't syphon the tank down to the sump.

You will overflow if there is more flow going in that the overflow allows to drain to sump, that's why you put a ball valve on the pvc return from the sump pump to the tank.
Yes, I have frags of both rics and zoas I sell, mostly rics though. But PM is more appropriate on that subject or we end up turning the thread into a classified thread.
Sorry, for some reason I thought you were doing a frag tank. 1x250 wt MH and a couple T5 actinics would do well on the tank.

If it were me though and my tank I would do 2x150wt though. Get better coverage. A single will not get to the ends of a 40 breeder. But it will work, just have to keep low light corals at the ends and get used to seeing darker sides than the center.
With 2x150s though you could have them on seperate timers and have one come on couple hours ahead of the other and go off couple hours ahead and have a semi-natural light cycle.

Thanks for the advise. How do I PM?
Stupid ? but wheres the best place to get cheaper MH's,if there's such a thing?I hate to pay 400 a pop if I didn't have to.
Display tank,is it alright to have fish?
How does a ball valve stop it from overflowing?Does the refugium overflow or tank?
Thanks,
Cory
One last ? for the night if I can't RO my water,is there any other way thats safe?
I don't have enough water in my well to do that.
Thanks
