The two clown fish i had died. Now i have a yellow tang in a 20 gallon tank( i know thats probably not the best for him) but now its the only fish i have. I have frozen "bubble gum" with a mixture of things and i also have frozen mysis and pellets. Was wondering if it would be best to get seaweed for him.
Thanks

Yes, sticking w/the question; you will need to be adding nori or seaweed sheets (1"x3") each day maybe.
Upgradin the tank as you know now is not a luxory it is essential for that fish to live. Good luck.

Just go get yourself some NORI, or some romaine lettuce. NOT ICEBURG, it has no nutritional value. Not even to us. Its just a filler full of water. Romaine however, has vitamins. Rinse it off and clip a small piece inside the tank and take it out everyday. Feed every other day to every 2 days once you see that his belly and body are thick.

Maybe it`s a good idea for you to do some homework before buying a fish . Waiting till after you get the fish can be too late . It is bad enough it is in a 20 and now you don`t know what to feed it .

Ease up guys. Yes research needs to be done first, but atleast he is seeking advice now.
jman, please re-read the posts again. I suggested a 1x3" piece. Start there and see what is left over at the end of the day. Do not leave a piece in there over night. All fish need a variety of diet. Frozen brine does nothing for a fish, so...... use vitamins and fresh garlic juice to soak foods in. Garlic boosts the immune system alot.

Jman, I know it must seem like you are taking a lot of heat here, but the folks are really trying to help you.
The cycle "process" was explained to you on another one of your threads. That's most likely why your Clowns died and your Tang is probably also struggling. Feeding is important, but that fish is doomed in your tank.
We all wish we could have more in our tanks than we have, but you have to remember we're dealing with living creatures here.

I'll skip the flaming and help you out.
I have a yellow tang that has been healthy and happy for 1.5 years. He's a little porker actually.
Anyways.. I have 2 clowns and a Yellow tang. I feed twice a day, once in the morning, once at night before the lights go out. in each feeding, I give 1/3rd of a cube of Emerald Entree, one small chunk (about the size of the emerald entree part) of blood worms, and 4 very small cut up bits of Ocean Nutrition Spirulina.
Just feeding a tang alone.. you could probably do about half the amount of each of those 2x a day.
It doesn't hurt to give him lettuce or algae strips as others have mentioned especially if your tank isn't mature and doesn't have much natural algae for him to graze on. (they do not eat hair algae)

I did do some research before, for 2 clown fish. I didnt come to find this forum until after i had purchased the tank but did do alot of random reacding from different sites. The Tang was given to me and I knew it wasnt good but didnt know what to do with it at the time. Was about to sell it to LFS but then the 2 clowns died.
The food which ive been feeding it is a mix of ( i have the box infront of me now) Squash, spinach, romaine lettuce, some vitamins and some other stuff. They are called fish gumdrops

So mysis does nothing for fish? or yellow tangs specifically? Also, when you say garlic can i just get garlic from the grocery store and cut it up?

My tank cycled from as far as i know. And, obviously
, i dont know too much and started off somewhat on the wrong foot, but I had 20 lbs of live sand and 10-12 lbs of live rock in m tank for a month before adding anything else. I also had it that long without a testing kit so I never saw any ammonia or nitrite spikes. Now, i have nitrate around 20 but today i did a large, 50%, water change and it helped it out.
Why exactly is the fish doomed in the tank? becuase it doesnt have enough space to swim? thats the only thing I've been told is wrong with the 20 gallon tank. Atleast until the summer ends and i go back to school i will not be getting a larger tank. If Giallo(fishes name) will not survive that long for sure please let me know. Go back to school end of august.
cjworkman - thanks
Okay, here are some pictures. I moved my tank around yesterday and think this is much better. Giallo now has a place he really likes to hang out instead of all over the place ( before the 2 rocks were seperated)
gonna make a new post for them

No, Brine and Mysis are different. Mysis are good, but Tangs need a lot of veggies in their diets. I'm not a big fan of unnatural foods like vegetables. Lettuce, squash, spinach etc. aren't part of a Tangs natural diet.
Tangs like to swim and graze. I can't tell you for sure if yours will be ok or not. Tangs get stressed easily. Watch yours for signs of ich and other diseases.
Like I said, I hope you take all the advice in a positive way. Like many of us, you got into the hobby before you fully understood it. Many of us did the same. We're here to help you.

thanks journeyman. I know i would have never gotten into it unless i went out 1 day and bought the basics. I knew i needed to let it hang out for awhile before putting fish in, but then on some site i read i needed fish to start the cycling process not relaizing the live sand and rock would have started it. So yah i know i got too much in there too fast for the bacteria but i hope to keep it going well.
Just ordered a refractometer, powerhead, and some seaweed a couple hours ago... hope to see it soon.
Thanks

Setup coming along nicely. Seems like a lot of hermits. Be sure to put some empty shells in there for them to grow into.
Rock looks more porous in those pics. Don't play around in the tank too much though. That causes more stress.
The rock on the left looks oddly colored. Do you know what kind of rock it is?

im not sure of the rock, can find out next time i go to my lfs. What do you mean by pouros?good or bad? it was a more expensive one. There are 11 hermit crabs ( i paid for 12) but
they gave me 1 empty shell. I have 3 empty shells in there right now but yes i should get more, my friend told me he found 2 dead hermit crabs from fights over shells.
One of the crab's shell is purple like the rock on the left and the other crabs seem to gang up on him sometimes. I tried to make his home in the purple rock but other guys like hanging out in there too. The purple rock has a hole going through it ( large enough for a hermit crab and probably a small eel like creature).
I didnt think i should be playing in tehre much but the setup before just wasnt good i dont think.
The black spots are food i put in. I thought some might think that was black ich or something but no, if you look closely there is green/black stuff floating around not just on the fish. I had to get him out of the middle of the rock because once he saw a flash he went to hiding
