Forget the Arizona Immigration Law, now you can't even show your patriotism

Bionic do we actually agree on something here? Can you imagine the crows of racism that we'd hear if they'd told some foreign nationals they couldn't wear their flag's t-shirt?

Lord help us.....really. The comments posted at the bottom of mrdc's link are spot on. We only have celebrated this in a fun way, why else are the bars (even the Irish Pubs) taking advantage of it. Walk up to 95% of the people at any bar/resturant yesterday and ask what Cinco de Mayo really is and they probably couldn't tell you. This isn't North Mexico its the United States of AMERICA ! We celebrate St. Patty's day......why?? FUN! My great grandpa was from Ireland, when he came here he certainly didn't expect to be treated differently, same with my other great grandpa who was french canadian and didn't speak a lick of english.
They did everything possible to live like the Americans they became.

Politicians and school officials have become so afraid of offending anyone, and are even more afraid of getting sued because of it. This country is allowing all these individuals that use the hypenanted 'American' after their heritage to determine how we as AMERICANS live our lives. There's a high school here that is named Robert E. Lee. The school 'mascot' or 'symbol' was the Confederate Flag. It had been that for almost 30 years. All of a sudden, a small group of 'African Americans' complained to the administration that they felt offended by this symbol, because it reminded them of slavery. So the school laid down to this minority group and had the symbol changed. Don't even know what it is now.
It's time to get rid of these Heritage Month's and Heritage Day's in this country. Earlier this year we had 'Black History' Month, then that was followed my 'Hispanic Heritage' Month. When's it going to be 'Irish History' or 'Italian Heritage' or 'Native American Indian' Month?

If you ever find yourself in the Denver area you have a beer or 10 in escrow.

hehe, you see in Harris County, (they just elected a hispanic extreemly liberal sheriff who made no qualms about saying he was going to promote minorities just because they were minorities) so a white deputy formed a white person sheriffs group. (whatever he called it) inorder to bring to attention white deputies being pass over for promotions because of their race. Poor guy just painted a target on his back...
What bothers me more than anything is that although blacks and hispanics (to a much lesser degree) had a bum rap historically in the United States. Why in the world would you try and turn the tables and reap your revenge?

From a MEXICAN-American point of view, Sorry if i offend anyone, but it is a little offensive for those kids to be wearing that. Its a little because of the day. But more because of how the situation is down there. I really don't mind that they wore the flags, i mean power to them but there is people out there that do get more defensive about these things.
And as for those two kids that were 'part Mexican', i consider them white wash. They may call themselves part Mexican but up till now all of the kids or people that i have met and are part Mexican, do not really care much about their Mexican part.
Again, Sorry if i offend anyone.

Two can play that card... As a Mexican-American who can still speak spanish and makes his own chile, those other "offended" mexicans need to REMEMBER WHERE THEY ARE. And be thankful they're not back in Mexico dealing with the issues they have there...
Heck outside of Puebla, Mexico doesn't even celebrate cinco de mayo...

No Doubt, we are pretty much all decended from somewhere else (other than Native Americans), I take pride in my Irish/Scottish heritage, but I'm still American.

So very true. And also, I myself don't celebrate it either. The way i see it, it is just another day for people to drink.
Also, yes they are here in America but do they really think about this on this so called "Holiday". I also agree with Bionicarm. If they were to remove these Heritage Month's and Heritage Day's, all these problems would surely stop right? Who ever wants to celebrate could celebrate in their own house and not make a big fuss over it.

You know this is to funny. Everybody wants to complain about "Black history month", hispanic history month, and so on and so on. You know what, THIS IS NOT OUR LAND. Everybody but the Indians should get the &^%$ out and go back to your home land. You think Americans should be the main language, dress code, etc. Well in that case, we all should be Indians and have indian names, indian clothing, etc. Think about it, they were here first. Immigrants who came over, gathered them up into reservations, and treat them like dirt. Jesus, there are more important things happening in the world then this.

You did. The fact you felt the need to capitalize the word mexican when describing yourself pretty much tells me all I needed to know.
It's a sad day when kids are sent home for having an AMERICAN flag

Sure, lets just keep celebrating that which divides us.
I don't care about the __________ months. I don't like the double standards when someone who even remotely does something to celebrate European heritage being attacked as a racist.

SO, then why capitalize American and spell Mexican with a lowercase m? I understand how you feel about that, and seems to me that you feel strongly about being an American, like i do about being Mexican.
