Yeah, no kidding. Someone could have easily been killed either by the door or the bricks that fell. I was about 10 feet away when it happened. I got there just in time to see the chain snap tight around the forklift and just too late to do anything but watch it happen.

Not sure why he just drove off like that. He saw the camera's being installed a few months ago and my and another guy were there when it happened so there was no chance of him getting off without being caught.

Not sure what, if any, disciplinary action he is gonna face. The whole thing is going to end up costing us about $5K once all is said and done. We had to replace a 3 foot high by 12 foot long section of masonry that was along the top of the door opening. That cost a grand, then the new door is costing us $3795.

Lucky for him it didn't rip that head off the propain tank thatcould of been a explosion waiting to happen or even a perjectile.I seen a guy drop a welding tank in shop in high school and went threw a brick wall.Talking about a wake up call.

you should have a placard made for him with a section of the chain mounted on it that says "overchiever award, for the most damage done in 2.5 seconds of any employee in the history of the company"
I bet he was really embarrassed.

Did he fess up to what he had done? If not, He would be right out of my shop.
It was obviously an accident although it seems as if he was driving too fast. If he denied it, he obviously is doing other stuff that would be actionable.

His boss asked him after it happened if he had backed the truck up to the door to open it without getting off the truck because she has told him in the past not too. He lied and told her that he didnt even though me and another guy were both there when it happened. She said that people saw him do that and he said that whoever said that was lying. So, I then pulled the security tape to show to his boss that proved he was lying to her. They havent fired him and I can not for the life of me understand why. This is not the first time he's caused damage with the forklift. He just doesnt learn, but the management here also just doesnt do anything about it either. I think he is getting written up, but if it were me, I would have fired him for lying about it, not for the accident itself.

My sentiment exactly. If he would bold face lie about that...he'll lie about anything. Watch out for missing tools.
