foxface Questions

I got a new foxface last sunday. tank is 65 gal with LR. Other fish are 2 Damsels (1 Yellowtail and One blue). and 1 Tomato Clown that was added with the Foxface. Also have assorted hermits and snails 1 sally crab, 1 Emerald Crab, 1 peppermint shrimp 1 CB Shrimp.
I know that the foxface can lose some color when first added to tank. I don;t think he is eating well though. I try to feed formula one when he is out and about but I only saw him eat that once. I have a sheet of seaweed on the side of tank. and I have tried feeding with my frozen mysis shrimp. I was worried because yesterday I found the foxface sitting stillon top of one of the powerheads, all the spines up on his back and he was a mottled brown color. I honestly thought he was dead. This is the way that he sits on the bottom of the tank under a rock also.
Everytime I approach the tank it seems like he goes into hiding which scares me because he only seems to eat if he sees it when it is put in. Sometimes (It seems like he hides all day. All the other fish seem to be leaving him alone. Never see any by him.
can anyone tell me if this is normal behavior for this kind of fish and maybe I need to get something else to feed him? One day I noticed that he was swimming across tank at full speed and running into the side of the tank. BF said that maybe he wasn;t used to larger tank then they had at the fish Store.

I have a fox face too and he always looks upset. Mottled and spines up. He has been around for about 3 months now and is doing fine. He does come out to eat though and loves the seaweed. Mine hides from me too unless I stand still for awhile and just watch. I like him though. He is unique to me. I hope this helps you. Elise

How long have you had him?? They are shy but should get used to you... I could hand feed mine but any time I worked in the tank he would hide. Make sure you approach the tank many times w/o doing anything in the tank... get him used to seeing you. My fish go nuts when I come to the tank thinking it's feeding time... If I don't feed them, they go back to normal behavior.
How much algae is in the tank?? He could also be getting food from algae off of the rocks and such.
They are heavy eaters IME... so keep trying but he should eat when he gets hungry.

I've found Foxface to be shy for a long time but they will eventually get to know you. My Foxface still hide when other people are around but if it's just me he will follow me around like a puppy.

thanks I was just getting worried about him. But We left today and I had the light off in the tank when I came home He was eating some of the algae that i had on the clip so he must be eating when we are not looking. I also bought him some brine shrimp with the spirolina Stuff today.
Hopefully this will help.
