Does anyone have any experience fragging hairy mushrooms? Mine are getting a little out of control and I need to do something.

I think all you need to do is get a part of the mouth on each frag. I just cut four of them out of my tank today. I wasnt frag just trying to give them away. They didnt just come off, it was more like a massacre

If you're not in a hurry - take a razor and slice the foot 1/2 way off as close to the rock as possible. Slide another piece of reef rubble into the wound and leave it there a week or so. Then slice it the rest of the way after it heals. Now you have a Mushroom already attached to something you can glue to a larger rock. The small bits of Mushroom left on the original rock will grow into more Mushrooms.
If you're in more of a hurry then chisel the mushroom off the rock and keep some of the pieces still attached. Again, if you leave bits of the foot behind they will form new Mushrooms.
It's just a common name but we used to call your type of Mushroom "Frilly Mushrooms".

Thanks for the info. should I wait to the lights to go out or can I do it while the lights are on?

I literally slice them in half and make sure the mouth is split evenly. They heal almost immediately, if they're still too big, I wait a week or so and do it again.
Caution: THEY SMELL WHEN YOU FRAG THEM!
Take the rock out that they're on, put in a bucket with some water and use a razor blade, after you frag, just gently swish them around in the water a little because they tend to "bleed" and then they can go right back in the tank. I have to frag mine about once every 2 or 3 months.

I cant get the rock out of the tank. It is a 40lbs rock under about another 300lbs of rock. I cant frag it in the tank? I did see a video on youtube where they fragged a mushroom in the tank?

You absolutely can frag them in the tank, I just prefer not to frag inside my main display. Too many fish, messy, etc. They're very easy to frag though.
