What kind of lights do you have? they don't need to be under intense lighting if they aren't acclimated to them.
Also phosphates are a bad thing for hard corals. I think you can get something like Phosban or charcoal.
What type of topoff water do you use? If you're not using RO/DI or at least RO I would highly recommend it (or maybe time for a filter change).
A good macro algae like cheato feeds of phospates and can help lower them as well.
As far as stuff floating off a toadstool mushrooom... are you sure it's not shedding?
I did do a API Master kit test today and my phospates where a little high. I'll go to the pet store for the Phosban.
I use tap water actually. I want to get API Tap Water Filter. I'd have a hard time lugging home RO/RI water without a car.
So far the mushrooms seem to be doing okay. I don't know if it's shedding or reproducing. It opens up just like a regualar land mushroom and stuff come stringing out from underneath.
Oh, and I found me a very primitive starfish. At least I think that's what it is. It doesn't have five arms. Only four and I see dozens of white specks all over my glass and I also saw a baby white brittle star. This hobby is so Awesome. I'm excited about it.
