FrogSpawn Not Looking Good

I order this frogspawn and got it last week. Didn't pay attention to where it's suppose to be placed(bottom of tank)and got it to close to the lights. Now it's turned all brown and not opening. I've check my perimeters and with the exception of the phosphates(a little high) everything is perfect. Is there anything I can do? Water changes? Some chemicals for the phosphates? Would that help. I also got a toadstoal mushroom at the same time and it's incredible and I think it's spawning too. I see stuff floating off of it.

What kind of lights do you have? they don't need to be under intense lighting if they aren't acclimated to them.
Also phosphates are a bad thing for hard corals. I think you can get something like Phosban or charcoal.
What type of topoff water do you use? If you're not using RO/DI or at least RO I would highly recommend it (or maybe time for a filter change).
A good macro algae like cheato feeds of phospates and can help lower them as well.
As far as stuff floating off a toadstool mushrooom... are you sure it's not shedding?

Also, high phosphates could be caused by a number of things...over feeding being one....what do you feed?

I did do a API Master kit test today and my phospates where a little high. I'll go to the pet store for the Phosban.
I use tap water actually. I want to get API Tap Water Filter. I'd have a hard time lugging home RO/RI water without a car.
So far the mushrooms seem to be doing okay. I don't know if it's shedding or reproducing. It opens up just like a regualar land mushroom and stuff come stringing out from underneath.
Oh, and I found me a very primitive starfish. At least I think that's what it is. It doesn't have five arms. Only four and I see dozens of white specks all over my glass and I also saw a baby white brittle star. This hobby is so Awesome. I'm excited about it.

You'll more than likely continue adding phosphates to your tank by using tap water... I would highly suggest at least an RO system, preferably a RO/DI system.. There are a ton of places to get them at a reasonable cost (I use airwaterice just google it).
Tap water will always give you some types of problems as it's hard to tell what you're adding ie... phosphates, heavy metals, etc.
The hobby is fantastic as you really never know what comes out of the live rock or what new things there are to learn about.

Since I'm doing a nano tank most of my fish are small. Four inches or less and so I feed Hikari Marine -S- and Mysis shrimp. That's it. Occassionally, I put in Kent ZooPlex because I have crabs, snails, clams and starfish. Clams came free on the live rocks. I also have a featherduster.

+1 on the airwaterice ro/di units....What size tank is this?
A 20H. Our city water has always been hard water. It usually reads 7.4 out of the tap water. You see I have goldfish so I've tested the tap water to see if I needed to add anything to the tank.
Oh, and I forgot the shrimps. Whats the safest and fastest way to kill nuisance anemones? More and more of these dang things pop up everyday. My strawberry shrimp has disappeared and I'm afriad one those things killed it.
I've also found two grey crabs in my rocks. They're in my 10 gallon saltwater tank now.

Peppermint shrimp will eat aptasia...since you have a 20g, you can try buying some ro/di water from Walmart..and you don't need a big ro/di unit from airwaterice..(or anywhere else) I would definitely stop using your tap for starters...

Yeah I agree... you won't loose as much water to evaporation as a larger tank.
Peppermint shrimp may
eat aiptasia.. I have had 4 and none of them have touched it. A vinegar shot, a shot of joe's juice or strong limewater can really put a hurt on them but they still can come back.

I thought cleaner shrimps ate aiptasia anemona too? I've got one of those but he hasn't got near them.
Does ***** or PetSmart sell ro/di units or do I have to order from airwaterice? I'm headed to WalMart right now. I'll pick up a jug or two for toping off the tank. I'll have to make regular trips or take a cab to get a large jug. My noisey neighbors will start to wonder about me. I could say I need lots of water for kidney dialisis.

Edit: I just noticed we're neighbors. I'm from South Dakota

You'll get a better deal with an online unit --- there are a bunch of companies but I just wrote down the one I used -- very happy with it.
I've never heard of cleaner shrimp touching Aiptasia.
Must be in Sioux Falls area if you have the major pet stores --- as stores are probably just as hard to find there as here.

You're right. I am in Sioux Falls. If you count out WalMart. We have *****, PetSmart and Mini Critters. Mini Critters is the only place that sells live rocks on the property and those are the ones I got with the Aiptasia thick on them but then I also got a small frag for $5. They have a frag tank with broken pieces from the main tanks and they sell them according to size. Although, this one brat kid tried to pull a fast one and tell me that that $5 frag was $29! The kid wasn't new and he is responsible for the saltwater department. I went back on a day when he wasn't working and talked to the manager. Just asked about prices in that tank and when she said $5 I related to her what her employee had told me. Little pr**k tried to rip me off. Thinking I was stupid enough to believe him. Kick his little butt out the door. Sorry, for the vent. But I maybe a newbie to this hobbie but I can smell a rip off.
I'm heading out the door now for WalMart. Later

yeah, if you put it to close to the lights the coral will burn. Luckly it hasn't lost hope yet unless you see any black on it.

No black just a dark brown and some of the buds are getting narrow. I moved it to a tank with less intense lightening. Hopefully, that will improve it's chances.
Does anyone know what that purple cabbage like coral is? I've been looking at the coral on this site and I've pick several. I've received several shipments from ***** lately and I think my neighbors are getting suspicious. If I receive anymore shipments and they'll think I'm into drug manufactering. LOL

That looks like my other coral I got. I got these things as a package and of course they never said what they were or what I was getting. But the picture you're showing looks like a leather lobe. Is it the same thing? I didn't like some of the stuff I got. One looked plain ugly to me and the purple thing(still don't know what it is)was pretty at first but went dull. Probably didn't like my strong lights.
I just got done ordering on this sight. I think I'm addicted. I order the yellow toadstoal, red chili coral. ricordea green mushrooms and a orange ricordea mushrooms. I seem to do good with mushrooms and toadstoal since the one I've got last week has gotten bigger. After this I'll stop for a while. Those should be enough color for awhile. How long will it take to get my order?
I want to get a hammer but not today. Not sure I'll have space anymore in a 20H. May have to upgrade to a bigger tank if I'm not careful. LOL
