sorry for the corny title.
I just saved a brain coral that was on the brink of death from ***** for 5 bucks....
Most tissue is gone and much of the skeleton is exposed....more than 1/2
How can i help bring this guy back?
I have it placed in medium flow at the bottom on the sand. Should i move it up to more concentrated lights? iodine dips/

Fishman,
he was under NO lights....probably about 80 watts max...I have hm under 130w PC
They have several other corals that are dying that i might try to save....i just tell them there is no way i would pay that much...then i offer them a cheap price and they acept....any sale is better than no sale.

I did. It was shrunken, tissue pulling away, pale etc. It's now flourishing in my tank. I have it on the sand bed of my 135 with 770 watts vho. I have yet to see it's feeder tentacle out but, I spray a little DT's or cyclopeeze over it a couple times a week. It took a couple months but, it's doing great now. Good luck with yours.
And I agree with Bang. I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me.:D

Squidd how did you do it? This is the brain I bought 2 days ago for 20.00. The center is bright green and the outside of it is starting to develope more green than white. Right now its under 220 pc but I get my 440 vho tomorrow. It is about 10" from the surface is that fine or should I move it?

He looks "hungry" to me...
Still has "flesh" over the skeleton and "some" zooanthella coloration...looks like a good candidate for recovery...
Can you see a "mouth" opening...?
Try some "minced" squid (like from a "cube") placed ever so gently over his mouth...
May take a try or two to get a feeding response that he'll accept.(currents "blow" food away, shrimp/crabs steal it)
At the beginning it may only be the "mouth" that expands and engulfs food, but as he fills out you will begin to see "feeder tentacles "draw" food to his mouth...
Later, you can switch to "chunky" "meaty" foods like Krill, silversides,squid,etc...
As far as "placement" I was told on the bottom in the sand, medium current good light...as they fill out and "color up" more light is better.

i fed this guy daily for a couple weeks. your going to have to force feed him for a while. turn off the water flow and let the food sit on his mouth. if hes alive he'll respond. its tedious but if you want him to live its what you hve to do for a ocuple of weeks until he gets some flesh back. he finally got his color back and grew on his own. he's under 30 watts flourescents about 6 inches from the light. i personally don't think the picture does him justice.... on a related note i saved a buble coral too. it had 3 tiny bubbles that expanded but after feedings and good care hes on a very good road to recovery. 3 distinct mouths now.
