Polar Explorers Run Short of Food; Weather Stops Supply Flights

By Alex Morales
March 18 (Bloomberg) -- Three U.K. explorers bound for the North Pole on a scientific expedition to study global warming said they are close to running out of food after “brutal” weather conditions halted three attempts to fly in supplies.
The support team hopes to decide within hours on when it can send an airplane to land on nearby ice with provisions, Tori Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Catlin Arctic Survey in London, said in an interview today.
“We’re hungry, the cold is relentless, our sleeping bags are full of ice,” expedition leader Pen Hadow said in a statement e-mailed yesterday by his team. “Waiting is almost the worst part of an expedition as we’re in the lap of the weather gods.”
The severe weather is jeopardizing a journey aimed at projecting when global warming may melt the entire Arctic Ocean cap, a phenomenon that scientists say might trigger further gains in temperature.
Hadow, Ann Daniels and Martin Hartley are 18 days into their 100-day, 1,300-kilometer (800-mile) journey to the pole, during which they planned to use a custom radar to take as many as 13 million ice-thickness measurements. They aim to help scientists gauge how quickly the Arctic sea ice is thinning.
Previous estimates of melting have been based on less reliable depth soundings made by satellites and submarines, which can’t distinguish ice from snow. Scientists have made few surface measurements that are highly accurate because of difficulties in traveling on the ice cap.
“We’ve located a suitable airstrip,” Taylor said. “We hope the plane will be able to land.”
Now this makes no sense to me. We can't accurately guage the thickness of the icefrom satelite and such. So we are going to physically test it to see how much it has melted.
HOW DO WE KNOW HOW THICK IT WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

they have been screaming for years that it was thinning, but now they are saying they cant accuratly measure it, is this the same plot as changing "global warming" to "climate change" after they decided it was actually colder this year

I would love to see a study on how many people have died thanks to actions taken by liberal ideas? Like DTT being banned and the resurgence of malaria?

Well glaciers covered North Dakota 10,000 or so years ago and we had a HUGE lake that covered most of the state which now is Devils Lake -- still big but not Massive as they say..... but ok now at the same time the western parts of North Dakota and South Dakota are the T-Rex fossil capitals of the world..... could it be we just go through natural cycles?
Oh, and go through a North Dakota winter and then I'll ask you if you believe in global warming

You mean like the invasion of Iraq - more than 3000.

I don't believe in global warming. They should spend the money somewhere else.
That's like not believing in hammers. You will get your thumb broken regardless of your "beliefs". Global warming is certainly happening. The controversy is about the role of human activity in producing it, and there are lots of data either way.

25 years ago we were going into an ice age the late 90s warming was breaking records this year we are showing signs we are cooling. wat the h@#l do we know what this planet is doing. by the time we figure that out the planet will brush us off like every other dominating group that has existed on it.

Global warming as a concept is a fraud. The planet has been warming since the last ice age. They also claim CO2 causes warming yet their own data shows cooling trends at the same time CO2 concentration was increasing and vice versa
I'd be a whole lot more concerned about CO2 messing with the ocean's PH.

When your weatherman gets the weekly forcast 100% correct, then we should start listening to the "climate change" issue....But if we can't predict what will happen in a week.......how can we predict 25,50, and 100 years down the line.
Seriously guys.

Is it really happening. There is equally as convincing data. That says the earth has been cooling for 10 years...
