Goby Questions

I have been looking at purchasing a Diamond Watchman Goby but then again I was also looking at a Yellow Watchman Goby with a Tiger Shrimp. I was wondering which would be the best for my tank. At this point in time my tank is FOWLR but I am in the process of doing coral also. Thanks for the input.

I think the yellow watchman would be better. The diamond ones are sand shifters and need a decent sized mature sand bed or they can waste away. If you have the proper sand bed then either would work. I have one of each and both have lots of personality.

Either one would work since my sand bed is good, just think its cool with the shrimp gobys pairing but I really like the diamonds because I have read they our not as messy as the yellows

The yellow watchman isn't a sand sifter so not so messy. They dig but don't cover everything with sand. The diamond gobies are messier. They take mouths full of sand and filter it through their gills pulling out food. Mine doesn't cover everything with sand the way I've heard they can but he's still small.

With all of that being said which one would be more beneficial to my tank or should I just go with the yellow and tiger shrimp and purchase a bunch of snails.

The sand sifters can deplete the life in your sand bed. The watchman gobys don't. If your tank is small (<75 gal) I'd go with the watchman. Otherwise what ever you like. I have both in a 125. I will say with white sand it is hard to see the diamond goby. The yellow watchman is easy to see.

Neither will be overly active. I too have both but in separate tanks. Now if u want a clean look to ur sand bed, a sifter is excellent. My sleeper headed goby does a great job

Definitely appreciate all the help. Think I am going to go with the yellow since my DT is only 55 at this time. Snails have been able to keep up with the cleaning just they our a little slow.
