you can do this T!!! this is a task that is not accomplished by alot of people but you can do it!!!...
why not just start now and instead of "quitting" make it a lifestyle change and make it not part of your new lifestyle... when you want to light one up think of your beautiful children and how they mean more to you than 5 minutes of a nicotine dose...
find things to take the place of them like a 5 minute walk, 5 minutes of reading to your son or 5 minutes of learning a new recipe... come back for support and updates!!! and again you can do this!!!

RU and Meow both gave excellent thoughts. Don't let that stupid stick take time away from your kids.
We will be here for you. We have helped others before and we can help you.

I smoked for 19 years...My heart attack didn't stop me either. When I did indeed quit, it was a battle I had to just endure till the end of 7 days. I knew in my heart if I could go 7 days...I would be free and I was. I have been free now for 20 years and I never looked back.
Don't tell yourself it is going to be hard. Jesus endured because he could think on the outcome
. Heb 12:2 So think of your freedom, and all that extra cash you can now spend on your fish

Prayers for your victory...You are going to LOVE being a non-smoker!

i quit a long time ago ,smoked for 10 yrs when i was young and dumb(well dumber anyway)
a few years ago my friend asked me to light one up for him ,it tasted like licking an ashtray terrible.
dont know how i enjoyed them.
just think wont have to worry how many are left before you need to buy more, where the hell is my lighter?are my teeth yellow?
i am sure at $8 a pack will help you also.
just think of all the stuff you can put in your tank saving on coffin nails

good luck

Add me to the list..... April was 6 years for me. Is this your first attempt at quitting? It took me several tries but if you have a "plan" and your head is in the right place you can make this your LAST attempt (a successful one!)
The method that finally worked for me was to find a local support group. We all got together for 2 hours once a week and we all decided on a quit date. Then we talked about the hurdles, the challenges, watched educational and motivational videos, and had in guest speakers. We all had our last cigarette together and then had follow-up meetings the next day, 3 days later, a week later, etc. The peer pressure and group support helped a lot, especially since I didn't want to show up at a meeting as a "failure".
I think the nicotine gum really helped me, too. When the physical urge got really strong I would chew a piece of the gum and when that stinging, bitterness got into my system I felt instant relief and it would tide me over for several hours. Knowing that when it got really, really difficult that I could find relief in the gum made it a lot less stressful.
Think about and have a plan - be armed with everything you can possibly think of, (I bought myself a bag of plastic straws and chewed on them, twisted them, played with them when I wanted a cigarette) and go in with a positive attitude.
Good luck!

THERE is NO freakin way...I would ever allow myself to get that close...after smoking for 30+ years...and quitting after MANY MANY numerous trial runs (LOL) I would NEVER put myself in that position.....+ no one is allowed to smoke around me anymore..LOL
T..does your husband smoke....mine did...we both quit together...only way to do it...I do not think I could have done it if he was still smoking

You're a better person that I am. I'll be cheering you along and following this thread closely. One of these day, I hope to be posting something similar myself.

Lois, no he dosent smoke. But my parents do. We go there every sunday. That will be hard.
I do have a plan. I have set a date and will be using gum. I would like to get the inhaler, but I think its presciption. you can buy them on line though.
Its time. I cough every morning and its hard to get rid of a cold.

Teresa...It will be hard...take it from someone who knows ALL TOO WELL....But just be sure you are ready, and do not let the lousy tobacco stick win
You can also get Wellbutrin to help with the edge.

Dang you're old

When my mom quit smoking she said what really helped her was to find something to occupy her hands. Something as stupid as playing Dominoes really helped her. Also the little hand held video games. She even tried her hand at cross stitch although I don't think she ever got the hang of it
Good Luck.

one other thing that helps with quiting besides gum is hard candies or sunflower seeds. it helps keep you occupied instead of smoking
best of luck to you!

One of the best "ideas" i heard when dealing with tobacco addiction was this, you have to not want it anymore.
When I finally convinced myself I didn't want it. Quitting wasn't very hard.
I also STRONGLY recommend using chantix. It really worked for me when dealing with the physical symptoms of withdraw.

About 5 years ago I was heavy into dip. I went through a can of skoal every day. Back then a can was 5 dollars. I quit cold turkey and havent done it sense. My motivation was every time I thought about buying a can I would come home and throw the 5 dollars I wouldve spent into my sock drawer. By the time christmas rolled around I had saved nearly 600 dollars. And bought all of my familys presents with it. I still find myself biting my lip and I assume it is me craving the stuff but I still put that money in the sock drawer to this day. Maybe this could help you quit....... If not Good luck anyway and we are all pulling for you!

Good Luck and gods speed Teresa, do it for your family and FUTURE grandkids!
I am thinking about giving up Peanut m&m's but I feel that I might need some kind of support group and therapy.
