Got a 10g laying around, shrimp tank?

Well I got a 10g tank laying around, don't got any plans for it. So I was thinking of maybe trying to breed shrimp in there. What do you think? I was thinking of either coral banded or sexy shrimp. I got some stock lights, 17 watt 18" bulb, 24" set up, that came with my 20g. Could it work for a 10g tank or could I just get a stronger bulb? Would there have to be corals for a sexy shrimp?
Here is what I'm thinking of a tank just using my lights I got:
2xCoral Banded or Sexy Shrimp(Would there need to be more to breed and do sexy shrimp need corals?)
1xGongorians don't need that much lighting correct? I was thinking maybe a blueberry if I can find of and maybe a yellow.
1xTurbo
Or if I got lighting for it:
All above except gongorians.
Various mushrooms and zoos.
Is there any coral looking thing that doesn't need lighting? How about sponges?
Thanks, Mike

Ok, did some research, coral banded are out of the question. How about bringing sexy back? Do they need corals? Lighting? Etc?

um,... i tried a sexy tank and it is very boring IMO. i would do a frag tankor a blood red fire shrimp. and why are coral banded shrimp out of the question?

They don't do well in groups. Fire shrimp I don't think good in groups either. My 20g is a frag tank, so I was hoping to try to breed something or do something else with my 10g.

hmmm, you could buy a two pair of mated cbs and put an eggcrate divider
. or you could do a small species of mantis.

Kinda thinking of mantis, but I like the other shrimp idea better. So an eggcrate to divide two individuals or two pairs? Maye I'll do the eggcrate, get another fire shrimp and put it in the same side with the other, if they don't tolerate each other then I'll move it to the other side. Hmm, anyone bred any shrimp?

why not a peppermint, fire, cleaner, and sexy. Could get crowded but I don't think that's over stocked.

Compatabilty? I don't know I think I'm going to try peppermints. I found a book thing on breeding and traing peppermint shrimp.

Sure they'd be fine together. Just not the cbs. If you put 15 lbs of LR in there you'd probably only need to feed once a week.

Ok I talked to Bang Guy and he bred Carribean Peppermint Shrimp before. I think I'm going to go with two peppermint shrimp for my first time.
Here's my set up:
10g tank:
Stock lights 17w
A skimmer/ wet dry filter. I'll add some rock inside it to make it kinda a sump
A heater, not sure what kind
I'll get some sand from my other tanks, and get some water to fill it from the lfs. How long do you guys think it will take to cycle?
Then I'll put 15lbs of lr in there, I think I may pull out from my 125g later.
After the shrimp give birth, I'll turn off the pump, put the adults in a 20g, and remove larvae. Then I'll put the larvae in a 5g bucket, cover with towels to prevent light from getting in, put a led light on top, and maybe I need a pump not sure.
Bang Guy, what do you feed the larvae? Also what should I fed the adult shrimp?

Feed the adult shrimp the same thing you'd feed an expensive fish, minced clams, mussels, scallops, mackeral, mysis Shrimp, etc.
The larvae seem to do well with anything that floats for a while in combination with newly hatched baby brine shrimp.
No pumps in with the larvae. Even an air bubbler is too violent for them unless it's on really really low.

Absolutely. Peppermint Shrimp are omnivores.
If you hand feed them it will be easier to catch them later.

It's not a moneymaker unless you have a very large operation. If you want to do it just for the experience and the knowledge then it's really cool. You're not going to make any money.
If you have 5 Peppermint Shrimp in a 10 gallon tank they will produce 300 - 400 eggs every 4 weeks, each. That's over 20,000 eggs a year. Of that I was able to grow about 50 to a saleable size.
I tried to same with Scarlet Cleaners and got a total of 2 that made it.
