hey lion, what lighting do you reccommend for a freshwater planted tank?
in terms of: k rating, pc?, wattage

I would recommend doing 10K or 12K bulbs for freshwater planted tanks. They need to get about 10-12 hours of light per day. Overall, Halides are always best, but PC's work just fine as well. When I kept my planted tank, I had no problem with using just PC's. I would try to get around 4 to 5 watts per gallon. Anything less may be inadequate in the long run.

Glad to hear that it sounds like I made the right choice. Things will be taken VERY slowly, as I want this tank to look AWESOME someday. I want MH's because my dream tank is to have SPS and clams, and I've kept LPS and softies for quite a while now. I also one top-notch live rock, which is hard to come by today. I'm also going to be saving for a new protein skimmer and a refugium. It will be pretty "bare-bones" at first, but by the end, it'll be decked out.
