Bang, Or Thomas let me know that my Green Brittle Star might get active one of these days and eat one of my fish! How big would my greenie have to be to grab my 1 1/2" Mandarine goby? I think thats the only one he could catch, or could he go after a clown or damsel? Just wondering . . . He's so tame and submissive even to the peppermint schrimp that try to steal his food right out of this arms.
Thanks:happy:
OH he's about the size of a nickel w/ 5" arms

I think the problem is that at night when your fish is sleeping the brittle can then get into position to nab your fish. My brittle had about 3" arms and he got my neon goby (who unfortuantly hung out and rested close to where the brittle star hid during the day).

Mine is bigger than that and I too am noticing "MIA"s but thought it was my new tank set up.....are you saying that it could be him??? I thought they were supposed to leave everybody alone....he stays under rocks and he used to come out for a dried krill feeding but we haven't been able to get him out in the last 7-8 days....and alas, that is also the same time frame I have the MIA's.....:( What to do with him now would be the next question......
Thanks,

Green brittles can get very mean! They may not look like it and they aren't going to stand up for themselves in a fight, but they will hunt at night and catch your sleeping fish if they can.
They guy might not be coming out because he is full on your fish.
If you want to toss the guy you could bring him to your lfs and see if they would take it. They might even give you store credit if you ask.

Sure...the lfs just wants your $$$. They also have a $20 dollar bottle of something to solve all your problems or at least the one you currently have.

I got to say always come to places like this for your info. I have a pretty good lfs by me and I still question what they say sometimes. They have very well cared for tanks, but will still sell me anything if I don't ask questions (a person doesn't always the right questions to ask, though, either).

Your Green Machine isn't going to eat your Mandarin. It could easily catch a Clown or Damsel though, especially the Damsel.

I'm at a loss as to what to do:confused: The greenie is entertaining at feeding time. And I would hate to lose one of my clown or that damsel! I think I'll continue to keep him full and watch closely when I can. That's why I stick around here and browse the posts  I keep learning new stuff!
Thanks again
