How old is the tank? What other fish do you have in there? Are you using tap water? What filtration system(s) are you using?

The lawnmower should be doing the job for you, I dont know why he isnt. I got mine, and he "mowed" that stuff right down, lickitysplit. Try not to use tap water, and try to use a phosphate reducer pad. You could ask yer lfs about something like that. If that doesnt work, try caulerpa.

It is not so bad as it looks like. You see, it is a sighn that your tank is healthy first of all.
If you remove it - you better lower PO3 in no time or you will see diatoms, brown slime algae, grean or red all over it.
With hear algae nothing has a chance to get PO3-like food.
Do you have a small, for example Magnum Canister; H.O.T. Magnum... something like that. Stick to your tank with Phosguard (by Seachem) or...; that will keep hear algae at bay.
Always works for me.
Fish & crabs will eat it when is very short and young.
Long stripes will not. But your fingers can do the job.

Hair algae is not the sign of a healthy tank...hair algae is a nusiance algae which needs certain elements to thrive...most of which we strive to keep out of our marine tanks...of these...Nitrates, Phosphates and poor lighting are usually the cause...
Remove the nutrients and the hair algae will be gone...one thing to remember though...nusiance algaes are very opportunistic...they will die-off when the nutrients are gone, to create new nutrients to continue their growth...find the source for the nutrients, eleminate it, and do water changes...

my bro had the same problem too,
what fixed it was adding turbo snails and turning off the lights, he was running them too long, min as much as possible, he did those two things and the gr hair alg went completely away. good luck
