green water

i have a 55 gal. and its been running for about a year with only 3 damsels, 1 brittle star, some live rock and a few snails and coral. iv also added a sump tank with a refugium. and using the hang on filter my tank came with.
my apartment became over run with flys and i strugled to find the sorce of the flys by the time i eleminated the problem i descovered i had fly eggs in my water swimming arround in the tank it took me a while to get the salt to do a water change and by that time my water was green i did a 20% water change 3 days ago and my water is still swamp green.
should i do another water change, or will i have to start my cycle all over with fresh salt water?
im getting a uv sterilizer next week.

Do you use carbon? I would change the filters carbon, and do larger water changes....
so you are saying fly eggs turned the water green???

im just stating all that has changed with in the time of the problem. i thought maby i had too much filtration or too less or maby i thought the fly eggs could put too much decaying matter in the tank or spread some kind of desise?
thanks for the suggestion but iv been using bio bags i dont think they use carbon but im not sure im going to look into it, if so i havent changed the filters in almost a year.

o yea i forgot to mintion i did a test and all the lvls were ok

Carbon helps to clarify water is why I asked if you use it.....I do not use carbon in my tank either, but once I had a suspended algae problem (green water) and I ran carbon for a couple of weeks and it helped to clear it...along with water changes

ok thanks ill run down to the pet shop and get a carbon filter and give it a try.

all you need is a media bag and some loose carbon,,, just rinse the carbon after you put it in the media bag and then put it in either your tank or your filter ...

just out of curiousity, you said you were running a HOB filter... have you ever changed the pads/media in this?
