I got a candy cane frag in the mail a while back and I was all prepared to drip acclimate (2 day shipping from CA to FL). As soon as I saw the condition of the water it was sitting in, I threw all that I thought was right and took him straight out of the bag and into tank water. Not the TANK, but tank water...he needed "dipped"
I think Spidey had the right idea with what happened, but you know what 05? You kinda had a little mini business getting started. Don't let one idiot discourage your endeavors. As with any business anywhere, there will be "mishaps" but you gotta push on.
And NEVER refund shipping money.
If he had an issue with the way it was shipped he should take it up with fed ex cause THAT's who he paid...not you.
I hope you continue to sell frags. one cause they are beautiful, and 2 cause captive propagation is so very important.
And if you want, you can send one to me and I'll tell everybody how awesome it was shipped/packaged/cared for/etc...

I think anyone who has any frags to sell to the public has the potential to have a mini business...
It always starts small and with those acans and those pictures, you will have no problem making money and benefiting the hobby.
It always starts with one...then 2 then you hafta set up a seperate tank, then you have an

[hr]
acct, then a store...etc...
I got high hopes for ya.

Hey Tizzo, how about you do that anyway for those of us that don't or didn't know any better? If this is the right way to handle a coral, I think we need a sticky on proper shipping and acclimation of corals.
Also maybe a section on dipping; both iodine and freshwater?

there's an idea. I'll do that with the next frags I get.
I normally do sps's in 3 dips, everyhing else in two.
I'll show you pics of all that but there is no way no how I'm gonna do/ show/ teach/ or encourage a freshwater dip.
My next frag...I'm on it.

FW dip are totally fine for Zoa's
LOTS of people do it. I have done it on all mine I have ever bought and no ill effects. Yes you do piss em off a good bit and it takes about a day or so for them to open after. Its a good way to get those nudi's and other bad guys off of them.

One bad experience with a total #$%^^ has to ruin it for everyone, hopefully you'll change your mind down the road and help the "good" reefers out. If I didn't have the help of this online community with frags my entire tank would consist of yellow/brown zoa's and a green slimmer. Sorry for the agony that the this has caused you. And that poor Acan, it looked FANTASTIC in your tank!

Freshwater may not hurt zoas, But I don't keep them.
And why would you dip freshwater over iodine?? Nothing gets past that stuff and there is no osmosis affect as a result...
