Hammer Coral Question

for the past two years I've had this hammer coral. It's really healthy and almost twice as big now as when I got it. Once in a great while I notice a couple of the tips of it's tentatcles floating around on the current in the tank. Just wondering if this is some attempt to reproduce, or some other normal function. It happened this past weekend as I noticed a green hammer tip in one of my leathers and another tip floating along the sand bed. I remember this happening maybe one other time since I've had the coral so it's not a once a month or everyday kind of thing. Anyone else have this happen? No reason to think anything is attacking the coral as it is always fully extended (when lights are on) and very healthy.

I've had Frogspawn and Torch corals do the same thing. I've even grown out a couple of the bailed polyps.
I believe it's a sign of stress or injury. Not the overall health of the animal, perhaps another coral stung it or a fish nipped it or something along those lines.

thanks for the instant reply.
I thought about stress but it sits all by itself way off to the side since it pretty much is the bully of the tank stinging anything that gets within 6" of it. Only thing close are some GSP. Only fish in the tank are two chromis, yellow tang, Banghaii Card, Flame Hawk. No crabs and lots of snails.
Oh well I will just have to keep watch and see if something is bothering it.

Mine did this once when the tip got pulled into a button polyp. It shuld be fine. Another thing mine has been doing every once in a while is a couple tenticles will sorta curl up and does not appear to be as extended or full. Any info??

the hammer, torch, and frogs seem to be vary fragile i have noticed that when handling them u must be careful because there tentacles detach vary easily but if left alone i have never seen one come off

do you mean the pull into the base of the coral? because if that is what you are referring to than that is a regular occurrence especially if the get touched or nipped at or when they digest i believe
