I can say 2 things.
1.WoW
2.Ron has an attitude
I would really like to learn more about everything that was said. That was the up scale dynamics of dosing in reef systems WOW! And yes my brain is fried and my eyes hurt, goodnight

Okay, I've got cleaning to do and can't take time to read that novel. From what I did read I understand the trace elements we have been adding contain Iron, Lead, Copper, and other undesirable minerals. Our systems are supposed to have lethal doses of such heavy metals. My thought is this-
If the trace elements we add to our systems contain such heavy metals, wouldn't the salt (made by the same companies) contain these as well?

The ocean contains lots of things, including cyanide. How can we say that the levels of these elements in our systems are at lethal levels when our animals are not only living but thriving? All our creatures are genetic freaks that can take all kinds of polluntants. Give me a break!

Where's my Jolly Roger? I think it's time to break out the ol' cutlass!

Ummm, WOW is right. I've never seen such mud-slinging between a group of scientists. I was so proud of myself for reading the whole thing until I got to the bottom of the page and realized that there was a second page! Too much to take in all at once. Thanks, Krusk for posting this. Some very interesting information that will probably not be of any value to us for some time, at least until the debate is over. For now, I'm sure we're all just gonna keep on doing what works for us...even if we are just developing a "time bomb". Thanks. Lance.

For the past several years Dr. Ron has been attempting to find a reason for "Old Tank Syndrome". Those of us that have been in the hobby for a while understand the disappointment of a 10 year old tank that stops thriving for no reason.
He decided to take the road less traveled by looking at trace elements and is receiving a lot of flak.
He may be wrong.
He may be right.
Knowing how Ron works the results will be indisputable once he's finished. If he's wrong he'll explain in great detail why and how his hypothesis was proven wrong.
Randy is brilliant IMO. I think his feedback is required to generate the opposing viewpoint. Checks & balances.
But, I think it's great that Dr. Ron is publishing his results along the way instead of writing a book and charging us for it.
This is how progress is made.

Wow ! just finished reading all 3 friggin pages of that post! This is the future of aquatics, and the hobby of aquaria, that we all are wintessing right her ein this discussion. What i see is a huge market for the chelating algae, both in a commercial aspect and to the common hobbiest, if trace element toxicity is determined as the cause of OTS. That was great reading. I think i amgoing to take the artical to my organic chem prof and see what he thinks of it. God there are so many questions that this hobby has given me tha ti wat to go out and act on scietifically, but being a stupid undergrad college student doesnt give me much room to work with. Guess ill just have to write all this stuff down so that when i prep my doctorate thesis i havea ton of stuff to figure out! I totally want to be like ron, a marine bio prof, who focuses on helping the aquarium trade, as well as the ocean . Definately something to shoot for.
I cant believe that i was able to follow that discussion and comprehend stuff. I guess i really have learned from college!!
good luck all!
