yesterday when i was cleaning the 75g, i put a thermometer in there to see the temp and everything was fine, i forgot about the thermometer and left it in there. I remembered it a few monments ago and went to go get it. When i looked at it again, the water was 88 degrees, i took the heater out and i have it in a bucket of fresh water and im trying to find out what went wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
btw, the notch thing was at 79 degrees.

Sometimes they break....how old is it? Don't you keep a thermometer in your tank all the time? IF NOT YOU SHOULD

prabably gonna end up getting a new one, but i have had it in a 5g bucket of water for almost a half hour and the temp is 82 in the bucket, ill prabably let it sit for a few more hours before i make a desision.
The only prolem with a new heater is its a 50 dollar heater, but thats why R.J has a job at *****(20% off everything for him and family

You could always use the broken one to get buckets of replacement water up to temp before a water change.. I use my old somewhat busted powerheads and heaters for that purpose. I notice my heater went nuts because the chiller kept turning on so much and I realized that the heater was going at the same time as the chiller so I replaced it

i just get water that i think feels right from the tub, mis salt, take water out of tank, then dump that water in, i dont think its nessisary to let it sit over night, i also mix with a net, not a pawerhead, but every one has there methods

i take it you dont agree,
by feels right, i mean a little warmer than room temp, wich to me is normally 85 degrees (I use a thermometer before i add salt also)so i have time to mix and it will be around 80 then, i mix the salt for about an hour, then siphon out the tank water, and fill it up, i know there is still undissolved salt and what not, but ive been doing lt like this my whole "fish career" and have had 0 water related problems do to water changes, sao its not a shot in the dark, im just not extremely cautioous
