Help!!! Are the beds in a thermometer toxic

Was it red or silver? If it's silver then it's toxic (mercury). If it's red it's just colored alcohol and nothing to stress over.

I just checked a site and they said the black beads are weights coud this be possible??
P.S. its a hagen cheapie thermometer

The beads are most likely lead but they are still a metal and should be removed. They will eventually cause a problem when they start to deteriorate.

Did you remove all of the beads? Run some chemi-pure elite in your filter. It will remove heavy metals if there were traces left behind.

complete over-reaction. No offence but no reason to worry at all about them at all. your ppm even if they DO breakdown it would be over time and no concern. Pull what you can and make a diligent effort for good measure, but then forget about it.

do you clean the side of your glass with a magnet ? run the magnet over the sand. The magnet should pick them up. It happened to me before and that is what I did.

I don't think magnets pick up lead. I don't think lead dissolves in saltwater either. They're probably harmless but I'd still remove the ones you can see.
