Flaked food adds nutrients to the water column, that's the major problem. There's nothing bad nutrition wise for Clownfish, it's mostly water quality issues.

could that explain my slight amm spike in recent days?
I'm feeding the clowns formula 1 three times a day, thats what was suggested to me, and seemed to be verified by what ive read.

3 times a day is too much. Most people feed once a day or even once every other day.

Are you trying to get them to spawn?

Once a day or every other day is good for Clownfish. They graze algae and bugs off the rock as well.
