no they have been in there for 2 weeks now with now problems.. (just a regular air stone and pump)
Air stones do nothing for saltwater systems. You should have two power heads in the tank, one on either side. There is not enough oxygen in the tank.

Not only kids, but, air freshener sprays, windex, etc, can do lots of harm.

yeah but will the change show in a saltwater test? will it raise or drop any of the levels or will everything appear to be fine all the while poisoning the fish.

No, I would think that your basic tests would show something, amonia, SG, nitrates or nitrites at least.

Your fish are in a tub? No lighting?

I kinda saw where some people were heading toward low oxygen being a possibility, but I didn't see if you mentioned how your oxygenating the water in your tank. (I skim, sorry)
So how are you oxygenating?

I read another of your posts about your wife's tank. I hate visi-therm heaters, Do you have a digital thermometer in your tank? I never could set the above mentioned heater accurately.

By oxygenating, I mean, in what way are you providing oxygen to your water?
If your answer is powerheads, then my "next" question would be, where are they located? If that's not your answer, then forget my "next" question...for now.

Well lemme explain why I'm asking and you can place your powerheads accordingly.
Your water needs to have a certain amount of oxygen in it for fish or anything else, to live. Those air bubbles will work in a freshwater tank but not salt. Water is absorbed through the surface of the water. If your surface is not moving, then you only have oxygen about 1/2 inch into the water. The first and foremost purpose of your powerheads is to circulate the surface water throughout your tank. So, place one as close to the top as you can without creating a waterfall of course, that will cause ripples and create a larger surface area. The other powerheads will circulate that water throughout the tank.
I am not sure how big your tank is, but if your powerheads are properly placed, then you don't need many for just fish. Don't get me wrong, it won't hurt them to have more than enough, but if they aren't placed right, then they are redundant.
How big is your tank anyway?
OK I read your profile and saw it's a 55.
Place one very near the top on each side of the tank. The rest you can put wherever you want.

Is your equipment brand new or old? Have you checked the possiblity of stray current in your tank? I've read up a lot about that...only thing I can think of besides oxygen, but if you have that many powerheads....I doubt that's the case....

Maybe for tonight, slide another one close to the top.
You said your tank temp fell 3 degrees. Did they start swimming around after that temp fall?
