Hi

Just came from a friend of mine which received 3 new toadstools a week ago.
They were fine when he put them in his tank.
Look at the pics, they look terrible.
Can i save them??
Will they make the water unlivable for the other corals?

Cut away the necrotic areas and frag it into 4 or 5 pieces. It's a shame since it's fairly large but the dead areas will continue unless you cut them out.

Do I cut away everything that is turning green?
Then I have to totally throw away 2 of them.
Do i tie them to a rock or just let them settle on thee own?
any specific way to cut them?

Use a new razor blade (like from a carpet knife) to cut.

If it were me, I would cut away everything that was obviously decaying and discard. Then I would cut everything that looks live but has algae on it and save as frags. The rest I would leave to see if it heals on the rock. I would lay the green frags on reef rubble in a low flow area or a grow-out tank to let them attach.

One trick I use on loose frags is to pinch the frags between two small pieces of rock and use superglue gel to glue the rocks together. This keeps the frag from floating around so it can be placed in a healthier area with better water flow.

Cut off rotting bits.
Cut off healthy bits and put on ruble
leave the green pieces on the stem and rock.

Looks good. I know it's a shame to cut up a nice sized softie but it's a lot better to have a bunch of small ones to grow out than one large rotting corpse.

I'm not a fan of the rubber bands but I know they can work. Just my preference.

When will they open again?

In my experience they will spend the next two weeks creating a solid attachment and spreading the base around the rock. Then they will open and begin to grow.

Just jumping in...Leathers like lots of water flow, it helps them shed their "skin" so they don't get clogged with algae. If you don't have enough flow, algae grows and clogs them up.

Toady they all have a Brown coating over them. Is this normal?
