Ive had this occurrence happen to me on a 30g that was given to me.It was neglected and when i picked it up out of my friends storage facility it still had gravel and water still in it.I could see the different stages of water evaporation due to water line residue all the way down the tank.
I tried cleaning it with a solution of vinegar and water and ended up using straight vinegar with no improvement, and i have to say i use a lot of elbow grease to remove this haze, fog as reefkprZ describes. To no avail,i hope this isnt the case for you .If it is though its not a total wash,it can be buffed out with Cerium oxide a buffing pad and a drill or auto polish buffer.
I hope that the vinegar works though,if not Google"Buffing out glass" for the product and the "How To".
Good Luck

I had a friend that took a car buffer to the front of his tank once.... needless to say it soon became the back of the tank.

well....Veni...
it sounded like I am going thru the experience you had with your 30g.
I tried vinegar (the last few drops in that empty bottle), and it didn't change anything.
I am very frustrated right now.
I am going to go and get a bottle of pickling vinegar now, but I lost faith with this deal already.

thanks for all the help, everyone..

Don't give up,140 gallon is an expensive tank and buffing it out isn't that hard. Its definitely worth the effort.
