what new light? what did you have? did you acclimate the light?
Cyano is a bacteria.....what flow do you have? Filtration? what do you feed? How much?
A uv sterilizer would do nothing for you
OH...DO YOU HAVE A PICTURE?

How much are you feeding? What are your parameters? You may need to decrease feedings, & lighting. Also, you may need to increase the water flow.

Low water flow, overfeeding and phosphates are the main causes. Remove as much of the red junk as possible...do the water changes. It won't go away and stay away unless you get rid of the cause.

I just tested my Phosphates and they were at .33 ppm
I just put the light on the tank (i went from about 150 watts to over 300)
I ussually feed for times a day and nothing on weekends (but once a day for the past week [ I feed that much so my fish breed])
I am currently running only a trickle filter with twice weekly water changes
the change in 4 days

WOW...what a difference.....
SO did you acclimate the light...or just throw it on there????
you feed 4x a day

what about your other water parameters? What do you have for flow? What do you feed? What re you feeding? What is your cuc?

do you have a mated pair that you know will breed? thats way to much feeding IMO i feed every other day. and when you mean 300 watts did you go from a metal halide that was 150w to a 300w? why so much? IMO theres no need to do that. and add more flow to the tank. koralias will work really great.

I went from a hodge podge 3 different light systems to an all in one florecent ( i am trying to make a mushroom only reef)
I feed mostly the 3.5 oune cubes 3x a day and flakes before school
I have about 900 gph flow in my tank ( should I add more?)
and yes i just threw it on there
i have no idea what my ammonia and nitrites are bscause i dont have tests for them but my nitrates are at 15 and my phosphates are at .33 ppm

FIRST...STOP ALL THAT FEEDING....get rid of the flakes
can you tell us exactly what type of light you have
how many powerheads do you have
What is your CUC...example...how many snails do yu have????

With all that algae, and still getting a phosphate reading...it is off the roof high. You should be getting a false negative (test would read 0 while you do have phosphates)
To give you an idea of how much you are overfeeding...I have 7 fish, I cube of frozen mysis, thawed and rinsed in RO water in a net before feeding ONCE each day.
I hope you only use RO water, otherwise tap or well water is just contributing to the algae mess.
I have no idea why even concern yourself with breeding...perfect water conditions is what helps with breeding not a full bursting tummy. All you are doing with all that food is polluting the tank.

I have 2 snails and a brittle star
I have the return from the trickle filter (700gph) and an external maxi-jet type pump (220 gph)
My light is a 48" nova extreme pro HO T5 light (3x 10,000k, 3x 460nm actinic)

IMO..The lights are not the problem. I think you need allot more snails, or some hermit crabs and another serpent star. Feed your fish only once each day..get frozen cubes, no flakes or pellets.
You need something to remove phosphates. Clean the algae and cyano by hand and get as much of it out as you can. Do water changes each week until everything is back under control again.

after you get the water issues out of the way....i would deffinatly invest in more snails, but not till you get this under control.

No one said the lights were the problem....just trying to find out what the OP has
ANY WAY OP......GET MORE CUC...do MORE water changes...Change your feeding....1 cube daily...no flakes
2 snails is no where near what you need...get some nassarius, cerith and astrea snails asap

LOL...OP thought lights were the problem...and has been doing daily water changes for the last week.

I have heard that clams can help reduce phosphates
I was thinking along the lines of the cheep cleaner clams that are sold here (any suggestions)
I also try not to feed the whole cube (at best half)
