HELP! Tank Temp

How do I lower and keep lower my tank temp? My tank seems to sit at a constant 82, sometimes rising to 84ish. Generally the tank temp range is 80-84. Sometimes I'll dip my hand in the tank, and the top layer of the water is piss warm . . .
I have a MaxiJet900 powerhead to complement the 700GPH filter return pump, so I think I have pretty good circulation. BTW, it's a 72g bowfront aquarium.
Any suggestions?

If it stays between 82 and 84 it's OK. You don't want big temp. swings because the important thing is maintaining a consistant range. If you want to cool it down, you can try blowing a small fan across the surface of the water.
Is your heater working properly? :D

I don't have a heater . . .
What kind of fan do you recommend? Woudl I need to get of the glass covers if I got a fan?

If you remove the glass cover your temp will go down.
Just FYI - I've found that 83F is a good temp for the animals I keep. If I were in your shoes I'd get a heater set for 82 just to make sure the temp doesn't ever drop rapidly.

What kind of lights do you have? If they're giving off a lot of heat you can point the fan between the cover and the lights. Just a thought.
They sell small electric fans in home depot or hardware stores. :D

No heater in your tank? The temp in your tank will also fluctuate based on your room temp. And, the equipment you have in your tank can give off heat. I have the same MaxiJet PH and the same size tank. This past summer with the central air on, the room was around 75 deg F and the temp in the water fluctuated betweein 82 and 83 degrees. In the evening the air conditioner dropped down to about 70deg, and the fish tank temp went to about 80 to 81.
I agree, it could also be your lights. what kind, and how long they're on.
Some people get chillers that keep the water temp constant, but they can be costly.
