I need help with making my 29 gallon tank. I want to turn it into a beautiful reef tank. Please tell me what I can do. This is a current picture of it:

First, WELCOME to swf
2nd.....I do believe I see a blue hippo tang....NEEDS TO GO ASAP.....
now....how old is this tank? do you test your own water? if so what are the test results? what is your lighting? that will dictate a lot about what you can keep
do you have a protein skimmer? I think I see 1 PH...a couple of snails and 1 clown....can you tell us for sure what is in the tank?

My tank has been running since May. I have 10,000 k 36 watt and a 36 watt actinc and I have a biocube protien skimmer. there is a green brain coral, orange cap montipora, frog spawn, and torch coral. there is a blue hippo tang that is at least 4 months old. a false clown, a firefish, 2 hermit crabs, and 4 snails.

well the blue hippo still needs to go
seems you have the cube with just fluorescent lighting.....the brain will need more light....as will the sps (monti)....the torch and frogspawn "may" be okay....I have kept them under pc's before as have many others
for reef with your lights you really could only keep things like mushrooms, colt, kenya, some leathers, and low light corals such as the chili coral
Can you get close up pics of the brain and monti? How long have they been in your tank?

Some people take the top off and buy a clip on light.....they have all different types.....
For now I would move those monti's up high.....HOW long have you had the brain?

what are the dimensions of the tank? because my 30 gal cube is 20'' tall and you def need better lighting for the corals you have.i think they will live but they wont grow and the color's will be pretty bad. and the reason meow is saying to get rid of the blue tang is because they get pretty big and they need a lot of room to swim like a 72'' long tank. you can still have a pretty lively looking tank you just need to look into soft corals but they just aren't as colorful as some of the higher lighting corals.

You can buy a whole new hood....or as I said earlier....look into a clip on light
some people remove their hoods and do that

Do you know how much it would cost to upgarde my lighting?
what do you have now? What type of critters are in you cube? Well nevermind that. You probably have the stock cube lights right? Get new ones, they are more powerful than the stock lights that came with the cube. Or if your wanting to spend the money..... go LED's like the Aqua illuminations.

I believe that what you have would be fine. You could go to your local fish store (LFS) ans get new ones that are a bit more in power. Are your corals doing okay now?
