i have a tank with a small blue tang, ocellaris clownfish, polys, snails, blue linka star fish, and 2 hermit crabs. My blue tang has a large tear near its anal area. The tear is white and it appears that the fish is missing some of its meat. The fish also has bumby skin around its stomach area. What is wrong with my fish? Is it getting picked on? Or does it have a disease?

Tangs have a white barb at the tail fin close to the blue but on the yellow, it isn't a tear or a sore, it's a weapon. Your pictures are too bad to tell anything, they are not even upright...do you have a program where you can rotate them, it's hard enough to try and see when they a blurry ( believe me, I know how hard it is to get a good picture)

Is that what it looks like when they feel threatened? Hmmm... because my hippo tang NEVER looks like that.. even though I can see the little barb on my tang... it doesn't look like anything similar.... I don't think that it's that.

Okay...I did some of my own magic...

I thought you meant the white spot on the tail itself, are you talking about the blurred area on the bottom of the fish?

The tang moves very fast and it is only 2.5 inches or so. Should I put the tang in a small container so I can get a better picture of it?

No that would stress the fish worse. Is it acting like it is in trouble? The picture is very bad, so I have to go by what you discribe which sounds like a sore spot. Nothing on your list would hurt the tang. Is it rubbing itself on the rocks?

I am feeding the tetra marine saltwater flakes (which the fish loves) and dried seaweed
LOL...Sure the fish loves it....do you like potato chips? LOL
FIRST.....ditch the flakes.....get some better foods...like: FROZEN mysis, marine cuisine, emerald entree....get a variety....I feed H20 Pro variety cubes....they have a mixture of everything (that is if you can find them) I order all my stuff online
the dried algae sheets are an imprtand part of a tangs diet, BUT NOT ENOUGH....
Do you have any local fish stores by you? I also recommend Selcon to be added to the food

Sure looks bad whatever it is. How long have you had this little Dori? Do you have anything else in the tank with it like a green serpant or other fish that can get aggressive?
I would recommened that if you have a QT set up to put him/her in there soon. Without know what the problem is, like maybe a parasite or what not it will or may not have yet infected the other critters.
On another note, like stated above, get the hippo on a better diet with mysis and Selcon. Selcon is some good stuff. A little goes a long way. If not Selcon, cut a clove of Garlic in half and let the new food soak in it and then feed the mysis, or other meaty seafood.
I am sorry if this has been mentioned already, but what are your water parameters?

Meowzer? Do you know whats wrong with the blue tang?
NO, I am sorry I do not...you really do not have anything that would attack it....so I am gonna guess (W/O a better pic that is) that it is a wound
SOOOO....you need to do what I mentioned earlier about foods, garlic and vitamins.....
ALSO.....try to get a closer pic....I know hippos are very difficult to get pics of...LOL...BUT sit back and zoom in
