If one fish has it the whole tank does. Take out all the fish and treat them in a hospital tank. Then about 30 days you can put them back in (givs ick enough time to starve).

thanks for your response trey. yeah like 2 days ago i gave him a dip for like 2 minutes than he turned on his side and i put him back in my main tank, i didnt have a hospital tank set up yet. but i am setting one up tonight so coppersafe is better i will return the kickick and get that
do you suggest taking out the other fish?

Panchito,
Two points that come to mind from reading your posts:
1. You might want to use the search feature on this board for freshwater dip tips. Two minutes seems a bit quick for a really bad reaction. I think the idea is that the freshwater for dipping is as close to the water in the main tank as possible... sin salt.
2. Also consider feeding the inhabitants with foodstuffs treated with things like garli that can prevent the ich from re-attaching.
3. Be sure to follow Trey's advice and keep the fish in the Q-Tanks for at least 23 days... if you're going the quarantine route. Any less, will probably risk reinfection.

Very cool!
Thanks for the feedback and the great advice! I'll continue trolling this board to soak up more knowledge like a brine shrimp soaks up garlic ;)
Thanks for all the great advice!

my tusk was dead when i got home that night, so now i know how it feels to lose an expensive fish. I will treat the fish i have left, quarantine and treat them with coppersafe, thanks for your guys help. also 1 more ? how can i keep my tank cycled if i leave it empty for 23 days? all that would be in there would be some snails

Well Trey if I do go the garlic route, will the ick die off compleatly? and what kind of garlic should I use? I just want to make sure I get rid of them for good. And I got my h/t ready to go

Hmmmm....?
i guess this reply is primarily addressed to TERRYB and TREY. I'll refer to analogies I made in an earlier post that was deleted... as, I'm sure, this one will be as well. TerryB, I mentioned a barroom brawl scenario earlier, where I felt like the guy trying to break it up. Well, I now feel like I'm taking a side. That "limb" that I was stepping out on earlier... the ego vs. intent to help limb. Well, it may have snapped on me. IMOHO, your comments lead me to belive that you're more interested in displaying your greatness, than in helping us fellow aquarists out. I hope that you can move back a bit towards the helpful side. If you did so, I think your "greatness" would shine through.
Trey has a point re: weighing the benefit of a method of treatment vs. the amount of effort and detail required to pull it off. Many of us, myself included, have a lot of other things in life that will distract us from out tanks. Even if we did have the expertise to pull of the regimine required to treat with something like Cupramine, we might not have the time to monitor properly. Personally, I've had bad experience with Cupramine..., but that's just me. As I travel a lot and work crazy hours, I don't want to have to do water changes and test copper levels frequently. I lost a copper-sensitive Flameback once bacuse of this fluctuation. Unfortunately, these illnesses don't hit at the most opportune times, when we can monitor things closely.
Terry, regardless of the treatment method, I belive that you've been more interested in demonstrating your expertise than in helping people. It's fine to disagree, but mean-spiritedness is just counter-productive. I hate to think of a forum where people are so afraid of the flames they'll get from a post that they just don't post. I think there's a post on this board, The Aquarium, where folks flame away. Meanwhile, wouldn't it be nice if the rest of these groups were about helping each other and not about proving our greatness.
Trey, I hate to say this, but I'm a bit glad that you don't have a life outside of aquariums. I'm even happier, that your work deals with aquariums. The result of this combination is that you've got a lot of time to post good info here. I hope you don't have to get distracted by the flame-war thing. I also hope that both of you get a chance to read this, before it's deleted.

Ha. Personally I think Trey is just fighting with himself under a differnet handle. Notice the anagram Trey --> TerryB. --> Trey RB. --> Trey (Rebuttal).
Or maybe I'm just exausted. T_I_P, I hear ya on crazy hours. Are you my NoCal attorney counterpart? Part of the reason I gave up on swf a few years back was b/c I got stuck in Philly on a huge antitrust litigation, and every time I came home I was welcomed by a dead fish.
BTW, I've used both Cupramine and Coppersafe before I knew what quarantining was, and both of them worked -- eventually.

My Copperbanded and Flame seems to be having ICK too but I am not too sure. My Cleaner Wrasse has been picking at all the fish and my Cleaner Shrimp isn't. Only those two seem to have ICK-like spots on various parts of their bodies. They are doing fine though, so I don't know if it's because of excessive bubbles, or if it's ICK. Kind of hard to tell. Does anyone have a picture or can direct me to a place I can see it? Reason is when I set up my LR near my skimmer, my Damsel had major spots on him like crazy in the morning. During the afternoon it was gone so it might've been bubbles. I can't tell which.

Can we just talk about the problem at hand rather than trying to compete over who's better?
I say, the better man bow out of this arguement without further ado!!

Well to know for sure I gave them a quick freshwater bath and stuff started to come off so it was ICK. I let as much ICK come off as I could then I put them in QT. I used Clout from Aquarium Products. I got this from Petsmart awhile back because they didn't have anything else. I don't know how effective this is.
The Flame died because I guess it couldn't stand the medication. This scared me so I removed the Copperband and it's back in my old tank. I will try to redo ICK treatments again tomorrow though. I had an exam today so I had to leave the Flame and when I came home it croaked. So sad... My water quality is perfect for all major water tests and it's crystal clear. Must've been the Cleaner Wrasse I assumed and didn't quarantine. Stupid me. I want to use copper treatment but the Red Sea kit I got I have a really hard time reading.
Also, I think Copperbands are super sensitive to copper so don't want to risk that. Any other medical alternative that is safe and test kit that is more reliable? Thanks for all the help Trey. ;)

Wow, 54 years of experience between you two! Too bad it's being spent bickering right now. You both obviously have a lot of knowledge on marine life. Just think what you could do if you worked together to help people. I think I can safely say that everybody here is thankful to have such experience on this board. Thank you and keep up the good work...on marine life, not arguing.

Despite the battle lines, there is a lot of good info in here that could be helpful for future members who need to do a search for ick treatment...which is constantly. This is definately better than the run of the mill ick treatment info.
If Sharks and members have exhausted the knowledge component of this topic, Trey, perhaps its time we just lock the thread, rather than delete?
Your call.

I am glad you guys didnt delete it because I was still reading it. I feel like I started a war here. But anyways I learned alot from this post. Trey I purchased a uv sterilizer and is on its way, will quarantine the fish for a month give them garlic, setup sterilizer in main tank and run before I put them back.
ps cant we all just get along

I came here to read advice. I didn't come on here to filter through petty arguments to get to the advice. Please set your "differences" aside and stick to the advise. Thanks.
