Help...

I sold a friend the stuff from my old tank, in that was my beautiful red open brain. I continplated on keeping it but decided to let it go and kee the GSP instead.
Tonight they invited me over to see everything in their tank (125 gal). They have been asking me previous to this visit about the brain, it was not doing well.
Well tonight I want to sit down and cry, something I believe has been eating it but what??
Some of the red that should be folded over the skeletal area is missing but not all of it. Quite shriveled up and not looking so good.
What are the chances of me nursing this back to health??
I can post a picture tomorrow as my lights are out for the night and I just put it into the tank.
I have a 1 gal so something in there has to go or be moved but I am just sick as it was beautiful when I had it so full, lovely color and I fed it all the time.
They have: Clown fish, chromis, yellow tang, freckle hawkfish (like the purple one on the saltwater.com hawkfish area) and another type of long goby. While I was sitting there I did hear a clicking sound too.
The Hawkfish is quite large and is always in the area that the brain was so I don't know if it was him or not.
What usually would eat an open brain??

Not to many things would eat it. Im thinking maybe too much flow. Could have torn the flesh on its own skeleton. How much time has elapsed here? Was this overnight or weeks? How old is their tank? Maybe the clown tried to host it?

Oh ya one more question do they have Zombies near by? Zombies love brains the easier to get at (ie open) the better!

Sorry just couldnt help myself. Had to do it. Really I will try to help.

Well when they first got it I told them to place it on either side of the tank not in the middle where they had direct hard flow. So they did that
It kept on getting worse even on the sides, they claim they have fed it but I really don't think so. Their Yellow Tang is so skinny I don't know how it is still alive. All they feed is frozen brineshrimp and mysis shrimp.
I recommended some algae sheets for the tang. They do admit to neglecting the tank at times (hence the 3 major crashes they have had over the years).
So from what you said and from what I have just been reading on the internet is that the "tissue damage" is from lack of food and not proper water conditions.
When I first bought this brain is was perfect, not tissue damage at all and just beautiful.
Well I now have it back and hope to god I can save it. I don't know how well this is going to fair in my 1 gal but its not a huge brain and should be fine for a while.
They also have MH lights and it was under PC lights with me, but I know that was not the issue.
The rest of the stuff they bought from me seem to be doing well.
Thanks for your help

wonder what the water params are. Yea flow is a big issue with lps too much will tear their flesh I learned the hard way with a fungia. Once it starts its quick. then the feeding issues on top of it
. Well the size of your tank is not good but hopefully the brain makes a come back good luck

No I know my tank size is not good. But I just hate to see this coral die. We pay dearly here in Canada for corals and some like LPS and SPS are so darn expenisive.
I don't know the tank readings nor did I dare ask if you know what I mean.
Can you tell me how big do "most" brains get in the average home aquarium??
