Algae sheets themselves do not produce any ammonia. The ammonia is introduced from fish waste. If for some reason my fish didn't eat it right away then I wouldn't leave it in more than a couple of hours, myself.
In my 225G the algae sheets lasts less then 1 minute
in the 54G...i have left it up to 2 days....as long as it stays on the clip it is fine

If they don't eat it overnight I'd probably remove it. Wouldn't it just leach excess nutrients in the tank for no good reason if they don't eat it fairly quickly? I don't know, I'm just askin...but it seems like it would.

I have no clue....I have no issues with the 54G though (knock on wood).....The lemonpeel in the 54g...and belive it or not the 2 yellow clown gobies are the only ones who pick on the sheet though

Can you guys tell me a little bit about your water change process. Do you guys find it to be a pain in the ass?

I love doing water changes,
Maybe I'm wierd, I can't stand to clean my house, but I love to clean my fish tank.
I do 10% a week so its a very small amount of water and it takes almost no time at all. Then you feel good about your tank and yourself.
There really is nothing difficult about it, have your salt mixed up a day in advance (I don't even heat the new water)
Shut the sump off.
I run my hand over the powerheads and anything that might have build up on it to get it into the water column, then I stick a 1/2" siphon hoise in the tank and siphon out the water and watever else I can catch, detrius ect. add the same amount of new water back intot he sump and turn the sump back on. Takes about 10 minutes

Be honest you were one of those kids that liked playing in water, or mud.

Just the satisfaction I get from knowing I'm doing everything I can to give my fish and corals a good home so I can watch them just makes me feel good.

you can't just put thebag in the water and get the temp right and put the snail in the water. You have to acclimate them. And drip acclimation is best for inverts. there is a link on the home page that shows you how to do it.
1 hour drip acclimation would be a good idea for inverts.

Using my ATO unit...I swap the plug from my ATO freshwater container pump to a pump in a container of new saltwater after it has mixed 24 hours. Then I have a 5g jug with a tube running from my HOB Skimmer. I turn up the skimmer to make to overflow and wet skim. As DT water levels drop, the ATO refills it with the new saltwater. I can either dump the jug and keep going or stop when the jug is full.
After I'm finished, I turn down the skimmer to normal, replace the pump plug for my RO water container and there you go...a water change Flower style.

do you think thats why my snail and hermit crab didnt make it? I really think i got something odd going on with my water, what other critical thing is there to test for besides ammonia nitrate nitrite and ph?

also i let the water sit for 48 hours instead of 24 just to be safe. The water has been sitting in a brand new garbage can with a power head and the lid on the garbage can to preven dust and desbre from getting in. Is this ok?
