Tropical depression/Storm? headed to South Florida!
The one thing I know for a fact during all the power losses here is how fast my fish tank deteriorates when the power goes out, and how fast amonia starts to build with no filtration, no protein skimmer, no tank flow/movement, stagnant. Things start to go down hill rapidly in minutes not hours. SOOOOOO I went out to my storage got the generator up a tested and running have some spare gas and stored. I have all me fish tank power supplies into one power strip and then into one socket so when and if the power goes out I am not fumbling what needs to be plugged into where.I just plug the one power cord from the power strip into the generator. GOOD LUCK!

i went out a spent money on battery powered pumps and a little generator.
In 2005 i lost power for 5 weeks. lost all my freshwater fish due to heat and no a/c....it probably got 95 degrees in side.... yeah iam ready this year.....
yeah good luck everyone.......

Rember to get a battery powered air pump and stone. If airrates the water. You can also use the waterfall method in a pinch. Take a cup of the tank water and pour it in so that it causes air bubbles.

My first Huricane with my tank prior to my GENI, was this product called CATEGORY 5, RECHARGABLE operated air pump,, it lasted 12hrs and you can set it low medium or 1minute on 1 minute off,, I fully endorse this product,, saved my life and my fishes and coral!

For about $200.00 you can hook up a seperate panel box to run off the generator. That way you can use the toilet, keep the refig going & cook.

Today was the first day that I realized what is coming or could come. I bought up extra batteries for the battery powered pump. It certainly beats taking turns blowing into a tube in the tank for hours on end, lol.

Im not in the path of any hurricanes, but I am in tornado alley. Children blow bubbles real well in the tanks with straws for hrs on end lol. Had all 4 of mine up all night one night when we lost power for 10 hrs. I was so stressed about losing everyone I called in sick to work the next day so I could watch the tank lol. I didn't care we had no fence and missing all our trees. I was jumping for joy that nothing happened to us and the tank
I'm glad to hear that other people have the same stresses as me when it comes to our tanks. We did buy some battery supplied air pumps but will that be ok for times when we go without power for days on end..You all are in my prayers

Used my gen. last night for 3 hours when a lightning strike knocked out our street. Worked like a charm - only $250 after rebate at Pep Boys. Ran the fridge, one window a/c, and of course the love of my life.
Used two battery air pumps in two smaller tanks - good to have those.

We have nothing to worry about. I just had accordian shutters installed and bought a 15,600 kw generator. So I can assure you there will be no storms to worry about this year.

When we got hit with the three hurricanes a few years ago, I live in Central Florida and we were without power for a combined 7 weeks! We got to be the master's at grilling everything! I lost all of my tanks and really just started over a while ago.

NO MORE LOST TANKS FOR ME,,, too too depressing for me,, I thought I needed therapy, To watch something you raised from infancy, grow in front of your eyes THEN die right in front of you,, To see the fish breathing heavily and everything melting AND theres nothing nothing you can do about it! My real worse nightmare! For real! Now I have not 1 genny but 2 Gennies!

Made by Wen Power, 3500 Watts. It's only a 5000 btu a/c. And my tank's only small with no MH.

Im ready.........I think. I do have a generator 6500 watts, I can keep the beer....uhhh I mean the "food" cold. I can run my entire 130 gallon ...minus the lights of course, from an inverter in my F-250. I can run the lights if I plug into the generator. Last 2 big hurricanes we were only out of power 2 days.
We are on a good "grid" I guess.
