The paper that came with the LR said to dip it in salt water (.052). What is better the fresh water dip or the high salt dip?

The only way you can be sure to get all hitch hikers is to kill the rock.
Freshwater dips and high salt dips may get rid of some, but you will never get rid of all with out killing the rock.
And like Bang guy said, you want some of them hitch hikers or why buy lr.

Mantis Shrimp can be a problem but you want to keep the worms in the rock. Typically there's a whole lot more good stuff than bad. I usually catch the bad stuff after the fact.
I have had success with dipping the rock into a bucket of saltwater at normal salinity but made with club soda. This will cause the larger animals like Shrimp & Crabs to leave the rock. Have a net and another bucket handy to catch anything that comes out of the rock so you can add the good critters back to the tank. Most of the beneficial animals will not leave the rock...ever...

Thats the reason its called "live rock"...because there is "live" things living in it...If you dont want that you might has well buy baserock for half the price.

Definitely agree with Bang Guy! It's half the fun to see what kind of hitchhikers is going to come out and grow on the rock. Just deal with the bad ones as they come... I've only had one or two small incidents
