Hitchhiking

Would you? Have you? Share your stories!
What would you pack? Where would you go? How would you get there?
I'm probably never going to go hitchhiking because I have a wife and kid, but I've always wanted to just roam around America.

That's an interesting topic. I don't think I would... lol.... what if I get in the car with some creeper?

LOL.... that's where my pocket knife comes in handy.
I would always want to roam our country though.

I hitchhiked home everyday from boxing practice because the city busses didn't have a late run from the university.

Definitely never could do it, especially after I had a creeper stalking me during my senior year of high school.

Occasionally, you might run across a "creeper," but ultimately, you have the decision to get into the vehicle or not. If you have your doubts, pass it up. Also, I think that if you did hitchhike, you'de need to be on your toes... there's a lot of thieves.
Anyone have any hitchhiking stories?

I hitch hiked quite a few times in my younger years.....back then (LOL) you could.....SORTA.....YES, I had a few WEIRDOS pick me up......MEN WEIRDOS......I got out...and got out quick...ONCE I even jumped from a moving vehicle.....IDK what would have happened had I not....
I also picked up quite a few back then too
after I had my first child, I NEVER considered picking up anyone ever again......
I also WOULD NEVER EVER EVER consider it in these times we live in now.....IDC what I am ...or am not packing

Yeah, it's pretty dangerous for women to hitchhike these days. I can only imagine...
Still though, wasn't it just as bad then as it is now?

I remember going to my grandpas funeral in South Bend and on the way back to Arkansas took a wrong turn and ended up in Gary. Mom picked up a hitch hiker and ask for directions gave him a ride to the next exit. I was old enough to know better and freak out about it at the same time. If you know anything about Gary *at least what I have been told* is keep your windows up and locked and try to get out of the area as soon as possible. At least thats what my grandma always said to me when I started to drive several years later. LOL

You know I'm sorry for that.............
Hitch hiking???? I don't think I would even do it, and I'm 6'1" , 235lbs and I conceal carry. I wouldn't bring that kind of risk to my life. But with that said, I have stopped at several broken down cars to assist them. Is that the same sort of thing?

There was a time that I was walking home from field hockey practice (in hindsight maybe I should have been wearing more than a sports bra and shorts, but it was summer and I had to wear a ton of equipment since I was a goalie). A car was heading in the opposite direction of the way I was walking, stopped, turned around and the male driver offered to give me a ride. I ran. The car sped off in the direction he was originally going.
