Can anyone give me some suggestions on plants that seahorses can use as hitching posts and the lighting requiered?

Maidens hair is a good choice as nothing eats it. Really, most any macro algae will do the job. Kelp is another good choice. Halimeda is good, but harder to keep alive than other plants. Shaving brush would also be great.

My horses will hitch to anything that they can wrap their tails around.
I have some that love to hitch to the floating thermometers and ride around the tanks.
Seahorses do not require special lighting but I'm sure some of the plants you choose will.
HTH:)

A Seahorse will wrap its tail around anything in which it can feel a secure hold can be made...I have watched mine with their tails around in a very vague circle...a piece of liverock. But they were able to hold on and stayed there for awhile.
The Maidens hair, and the caulerpas are very good choices for a seahorse. You have to keep the caulerpa trimmed and managed well to prevent overtaking your tank.
Ideally for a seahorse..the hold in which offers them a secure grip and a little bit of hiding along side them is preferred. Seahorses in nature spend alot of time hiding out.

Here's my reccomendation, get plastic plants. THis way you don't have to worry about lighting and that kind of stuff because you have to remember that there are no salt water plants, it's just algae and algae need strong lighting to flow. If you get more lighting you can grow these 'algae' looking plants but that means you will get algae on your glass which means you need a better clean up crew plus loads of money for the lights.
If you get plastic plants you can do numerous cool things, like turn your sehaorse PURPLE, which would be mildly entertaining. Seahorses change color to their surrounding and if you get a plant that he likes and can hide and is very stable he will change colors. It's very cool...
Types of plastic platns... Long ones but thin. There are these fake plants that are eight inches high and kind of do a spiral all the way up. PERFECT for seahorses. BUt anything liked that will do fine. If you can get one that forms a sort of sphere shape, like i describe, it will be better for your future pony.
Shaving brush, not such a good thing... they can hide in them but have difficulty hiding.
JennyL, do you have a guard on your heater??? If not your seahorse is probably burning itself... think about it... if your seahorse keeps doing this i reccommend you get this heater behind rock work and away from the seahorse or get a guard...

Just a thought, wouldn't smaller Tonga Branch live rock pieces be a good choice as well? I have some that have branches only as thick as a pencil, which would be perfect for a seahorse. Anyone done this? I think that would give the tank a very unique yet natural look. Not to mention it doesn't have light requirements.

Well, here is that avatar, resized for you. Just right click on it to save it to your computer, and then you probably know how to do the rest.

here is the second picture of her you posted, again resized. You can choose which you like.
Edit: yup, I was working on it what you were typing in your request for me to do so. As to my trick, I don't really have one. I'm using Corel Photo-paint 7 for this one, I just crop it to an equal square first, then resize it to 50x50. Anyway, glad to help, but we've stollen the thread long enough :).

Hi Killafins,
My horses are not hitching to the heaters which do all have heater guards on them. As I posted, they are hitching to the thermometers.
I have been keeping and breeding seahorses for over five years and I agree with you that artificial plants are very good for hitching and also the wide variety of colors that are available are wonderful.
A bright and colorful environment encourages good colors in horses.
