Hobby or money pit?

After much debate in my head and talking it over with the other half, I'm going to put the tank and equipment up in storage for a while. The fish and Rock is going back to the store for store credit and I'm goin to take time out of the hobby yet again. I know that after my second child is born, the tank will become neglected - and I don't want to put undue stress on the livestock or myself to maintain it.

In two to three years, I plan to open my own taxidermy shop and I might have room to build a tank in the wall there. Who knows. I just know for now that it's going to be a chore, and unfortunate.

I'm still going to help out on the forums when I can. I'll still be here with yall and check in often. Don't worry! ;)

Since I won't be so busy with the tank, I can take the time to learn more banjo and mandolin songs.

You should see my sister's house. It's huge and packed full.
I've always been a minimalist, though I do tend to hoard ha!

My house is 1500sqft. It has lots of empty space. I bought it after the housing crisis when it was a buyer's market.
We have 1 TV and we don't even watch TV. We use it for the desktop computer and Xbox, which also double as a DVD player. Which we also don't use much. I'm always using my phone for the internet.

My kids are 11 and 3. My oldest is high functioning autistic. I can't imagine keeping a tank with a baby in the house, even if I had a spouse. My kids were always very demanding of my time. Still are but now they are old enough to help.
They enjoy the tanks as well.

That's the smart way, selling everything at rock bottom prices, it hurts to think all the money spent, and hunting for just the right piece of equipment sells for so little. Then to have to repurchase it all back at top dollar, because lets face the hard truth...you know you can't ever really get out off the hobby.

Same. Was in 4th grade or so, invited to a neighbor friends B-day party. His parents had a 20 gallon tropical fish tank, I was mesmerized at that very moment and knew it was my calling :D

My wife told me I had to eliminate salt from my diet. I was so addicted to salt I figured this hobby was the only viable option. A couple grand in equipment later..... Wala! $200 in livestock. :eek:
