i do not believe there is any good tricks to get clownfish to host some thing. it's either they host it or they don't.

sometimes it depends on the fish's age. i once had a bubble tip. and two fake preculas, for a month nothing. so i got a marroon, he dove right in. and my two perculas didn't care at all. till about 6 months later they started fighting over it...
so my guess is that clowns, especially tank rised clowns.. have to age a year mabye before they take to a host.
on a side note my current clowns ( those other where from YEARS ago) didn't take to an anneome, and now many months later they won't stay out of my corals :p... nut cases
so give it time. mabye get a carkie. but most importatnaly try feeding your aneome food and get it to be super happy.

I agree, ocellaris clowns are almost always tank raised and do not require a host. It is really a toss-up if they will or they won't. I have had three over the years and only one hosted - a frogspawn of all things. I hope you have better luck getting them to host than I have!

my ocellaris was a year old when my LTA moved across the tank and found the spot where the clown slept
now the clown only leaves the LTA to eat

Ok call me crazy but I have seen with my own eyes people putting pics on their glass of clowns hosting anemones. As a visual add to the fish so they get an idea as to what they are supposed to do. And the hobbyists swear it works

I've seen that posted here several times. Does it really work?

From my understanding, it does work. Not because of a "monkey see, monkey do" type of thing, but more so of the clown feeling threatened by the clown in the pic that they cant attack, so they retreat to "shelter".
Being tank raised has absolutely nothing to do with hosting IME. I have raised a lot of baby clowns more often than not see them jump into an anemone almost immediately.

From my experience... the picture thing did nothing. If you have a bold clown which I have that picture was nothing more than a picture of Ivan Drago on the mirror in Rocky's bedroom. Just something to get irritated over.
I can only comment on what has happened to me when I was trying to get my clowns to accept an anemone. I started with what was labeled as a wild caught sumatra perc...(I am almost 100% positive its an ocellaris mislabled) But she wouldnt go near my anemone for 3 months. I bought her a mate, a smaller true perc. He immediately went for the anemone and she immiediately followed and kicked him out. She then layed the smack down on him to the point where he had no tail fin and no dorsal fin. He still would not submit to her. He retreated to the depths of my LR... returning a day later and a much more humble tigger. He accepted the females dominance and she left him alone. But he got an infection and died. I waited 2 weeks and bought a TR Ocellaris. The female had taken residence in the anemone now and it was clearly hers. The TR ocellaris also got a beat down but not nearly as severe and soon submitted to her. Now they reside together in the anemone, very very happy and I think a bit twitterpated...but im not sure.

Prob my fav pic of my anemone.

Same here. The question can always be asked if they even saw the picture and comprehended what it was, but the results were not there.

also keep in mind that certain clowns will naturally host certain anemones. The percs for instance, are more likely to host an LTA than a BTA by nature, but thats not to say that they WONT host the BTA.
Good Luck

My stupid clown hosts a cave so you have to make effort to see him.
He's as far away from my carpet anemone as he can get... although he tried to host my leather colt coral until all the polyps retracted - yeah colt coral.. not anemone or even my frogspawn.
