I have bristle worms that seem to be taking over my new tank have had it for about 4 months. I want to start putting coral in soon but will they eat it? How can I get rid of them? Is there a fish that will eat them?

Actually, they can if they get big enough.

As ugly and hideous as they may look, they are great scavengers eating all that junk at the bottom of your tank. That being said, if your seeing a lot of them, it could mean that you're overfeeding. Try cutting back on the feeding. Some say Coral Banded Shrimp will kill eat them but mine didn't. He ended up killing two of my cleaner shrimp!!! Anybody want a CBS?

I've heard terrible things about CBS being mean and nasty. :(
I have mixed feelings about bristleworms. They're good scavengers, but I'm always paranoid that one or two of them will get huge and eat my frags. Once a month or so I go into my tank at night armed with a flashlight and a pair of tweezers and throw any bristles I get into my fuge where they can't do any damage to my frags.

Same here. When they become godzilla, I go hunting as well. But I don't have a fuge to put them in. Great idea, though.

That's good to know. I guess it uncommon for them to that. I knew that they could eat like snails. I read online that they can even eat small fish... I don't know about that, but if a bristle worm can do that then it must be huge!

I hope I can link to that site, since it's a personal site and all. This guy found a SEVEN FOOT bristleworm in his tank. That scares me haha.

Yeah, but a worm nonetheless. I won't take any chances lol.

I remeber the first time I saw that picture.
I would rather be shocked by an unsafe power head than have that thing touch me unsuspectingly

From what I read in a magazine this month (can't remember which one right now) there is only one species of Bristle Worm (it's a Fire Worm) that eats corals.
I've got one on my tank that's practically a pet. He comes out to grab food sometimes and is somewhere over 12 inches long.
If you have a large number of worms in your tank there is a detritus issue. Address the issue and you'll see fewer worms.
