Careful what you wish for my friend, If it was that easy everyone would be doing it.

The more I think about this...this is crucial to know, because generally one that does not drink looks down upon those that do...not always, but many times they have a very particular reason as to why they do not, and have strong feelings about those that do. Could be touchy, but I am guessing he has done his recon on this one...if not, go for the arbitrary Caramel (love that movie).
It is an issue. For a couple reasons. One drinking is still a no no in many christian circles.
Another is family history.
My wife absolutely abhors alcohol because her family are all dysfunctional alcoholics if I drank it would have been a deal breaker from the start.
Not that I don't love a good brew...

i don't drink. not a drop. ....mostly b/c I CAN'T. I'm on daily preventative meds for migraines and drinking would kill me

so..... pple who don't drink aren't necessarily dry b/c they're prudes

she consumes alcoholic beverages, and so do i. the difference is that we dont like go to big parties and get wasted. Christians can drink alcohol. when i ask her for dinner i will no doubt order a beverage, and she will too im sure. the difference is that i wont order 6 of them.

Right on, and I respect it, but don't subscribe. In all truth that would be a deal breaker for me, but I am far removed from perfection. If I am out looking for a particular good time it's gonna involve a guiness or 12. As far as organized religion goes
...another time.
BTW...anymore, these good times only happen about twice a year...takes me that long to recover...

I think Jtt has this, so I must pick on Nick for a moment. We have a word for people like you. You are a slurker
You are a sneaky lurker...You are here but not signed in. You sign in when you have something to say. You are here anyway, come back to the boards! I didn't really get why you left. You are job searching. I have two and am still here everyday. Not to compare or anything like that. Please don't get me wrong at all, just wondering why you are not active on the boards. The real reason...

I don't want to brag, but I've been asked out plenty of times. If a guy I'm interested in asks me out, I say yes. Be it for dinner, a movie, drinks, a concert, etc. If in not interested, I say I'm busy, have plans, etc. If I truly am busy I let the guy know what day I'm available.
You are putting too much pressure on yourself. I know you like the girl, I know she is older, but if you two have similar ideologies then go for it! I seriously doubt she will be rude if she is uninterested. The best thing to do is put yourself out there. At worst, she will say no, but that will give you the courage to move on and find the girl of your dreams! Good luck!

I would probably say
"hey, I'm having a good time hanging out with you, do want to go grab (dinner/a beer/coffee/movie) {insert her interest of choice in the parenthesis} sometime?"
blunt and to the point, no weasle pissing around.
if your hanging out with her and actually paying attention to half of what she says you should have picked up on the kinds of things she may be interested in doing. All it takes is the balls to ask, its not like your asking her to marry you.
butch up son,
the worst she can say is no, and the best, well..... use your imagination. if you dont ask you'll kick yourself in the butt later wondering "what if"
