How do you catch a damsel?!

I hate to ask sooo many questions about my new tank but here is another. I recently had a post about if i had too many fish and of corse the answer was yes. so i am wondering if there is any way to catch these darn damsels! :mad: they are just soo fast and they hide in all the rock. any suggestions for catching these fish? <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

There is one way I know of other than tearing your tank apart. Take a chuck of brine shrimp and put it in your net. Hold the net so that the food doesn't come out of it much. The damsels will eventually get used to the net being in there during feeding time and they will go in the net after the food. One of my damsels went in on the first day, but the other two take a few more days. This method does work, but may take some patience.

But what happens if my damsels dont see the food right away and some of my other fish get to it first? any other methods?

in my short fishy experience, I think the best way is to put in a domino damsel who will terrorize all the others to death, then you only have one to catch instead of however many you have now. j/k good luck

Thats a pretty good solution but all the dead fish in my tank will put high amounts of ammonia and nitrate into my tank although my serpent star might eat some of the dead fish. :p

Good luck!!!! My daughter-in-law has been trying to catch a B***h of a Damsel shes had in her tank for about a year now..She has tried everything short of pulling all her rock out..The thing outsmarts her at every turn..I hope you have much better luck :cool:

Anybody want to buy a yellow tail damsel when i catch it(if i can) for $0.00? <img src="graemlins//yeahright.gif" border="0" alt="[yeahright]" />

purchase a good size lion or something along those lines and just watch as it eats all your damsels in a day

i have 2 yellowtailed's and one blue damsel...and it took me about 10 minutes to catch all of them last night. the yellowtailed weren't hard, because they stay at one end. but the blue is a smart fella. he kept hiding in this peice of rock. so i picked the rock up outta the water, turned the rock sideways, and out slid the blue right into my net :) yea, i had to pull a rock out, but it only took me 2 minutes to catch him also.

2 blues and 1 yellow tail here.. biggest mistake I made on my tank. The yellow tail steals food from the corals just for the sake of stealing it, he does not eat it! When I catch them they are either going to the LFS, or Oscar food. I have not decided yet. I suppose they could be free to a good home.

NO WAY am i tearing apart the lr. the last time i did that it all fell on the bubble coral and nearly killed it! im goig to half to tare my tank apart to catch my 2 dam fish but lckly i bont have any coral just yet so nothing to kill <img src="graemlins//uhuh.gif" border="0" alt="[U-Huh]" /> <img src="graemlins//yell.gif" border="0" alt="[yell]" /> <img src="graemlins//bah.gif" border="0" alt="[bah]" /> <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

you are pretty luck not to have coral...yet. I sat in front of my tank with the net for 2 hours trying to catch the damsels. all that happend was the nitrate went up to 50ppm because of all the food! any more info? any thing would help! :mad:

Yes it seems the best thing would be just to take out the LR. I am biting the bullet tomorrow and removing all my rock and corals to get a peppermint shrimp that has taken to eating my zooanthids. I am trying to put a good spin on it and looking at it as a chance to re aquascape. Either way, I really don't have a choice and it appears you don't really either if you want it out.

if i took out 150 pounds of live rock and the corals wont all the poo and stuff get stirred up in the tank and i am not going to rearange 150 pounds of live rock! i had trouble movind 10 pounds! it fell all on my bubble!

i think fallen and lore had a couple of good ideas.. perhaps ask a little more about that fish trap and if your into lions that might not be a bad idea.. they are alright will coral.. and many fishes.. tangs, hawks, triggers, and a lot more.. as long as the size difference isn't to great..my grandmother being the sweet sweet woman she is bought me a blue devil for my little ten gallon probably the worst fish to put in such a small tank.. it was a pain in my behind.. inevitably i took every shred of live rock out of the tank.. and got the damsel.. he now resides in a tank at work..he's for sale...anyway.. i'd check up on that fish trap and if you have the patience the net idea works as well...]

well i got them out of my tank it took 30 min to take the rock out catch the fish and put the rock back nothing changed as far as water cond. but i changed 10 gallons anyway but the fish are gone wooo hoo :p :) ;) :cool: :rolleyes: :D p.s. hope you get rid of yours
