How do you frag a hammer?

I just got a good size hammer that I would like to frag. It has 3 main branches (3/4") and several little polyps along the sides.
Can I cut off one of the branches? If so where and with what? Or go after the little guys.....

Once the Hammer has grown enough so that an individual polyp no longer shares tissue with its neighbor you can cut it off. You can use a Dremmel, hack saw, chisel, etc.
I assume this is a Branching Hammer and not a Scrolling Hammer.

Cut the branches/stalks as far away from the head as possible... basically were the branch starts

Yep, it has braches. I have a couple of inches on each branch.
So, the heads are the only thing "alive" and the rest is just dead?
Whats a scrolling Hammer?

i have a branching hammer also. i just break the stalks off and wedge them between rocks
