How long can Bang hold out...?

You can hatch brine shrimp pretty easy. they only take about 24 hours to hatch. Fresh hatched brine have the most nutrition. I have never raised any saltwater fish, but I used to raise freshwater angels. I would hatch a jar per day and they would eat them up. that was the only way I could get them to live. All you need is a mason jar and an airstone. I bought mine at pet supplies plus. I forget the salinity of the water, but it is higher than your tank. I still hatch some once in a while to feed my corals or whatever else would eat them. Once they hatch the shells will float. put a small flashlight at the bottom and suck them out with a 1/4" hose onto a net lined with a piece of bed sheet. coffee filter works, but you have to go slower.
Good info. steelytom. I'm not sure I really want to get into breeding and hatching food right now though. This was kind of an "accident", meaning I wasn't trying to breed, it just happened. Now that it has happened, I do want to do the responsible parent thing and provide as much as possible, but within reason. The whole event has been exciting I must admit, for the whole family. So I will check into it more and see what is involved. Personally, I don't have my expectations set too high on this batch. If I can get them to eat and survive, great. If not, I will mark it as a learning experience, but I'm not going to beat myself up, or go out and spend another $500 trying set myself up to be a breeder.

Dwight, how do you tell the difference between a male and a female? I got a pair today and as far as I can tell, I have a pair... one has a more square jaw and the second fin is longer.

Check your email :)
This is weird Spidey. I have not received any emails today, at all. Not even SPAM. Are you sure you sent something? I thought earlier that this was strange. I'm going to call AOL and see if something is wrong.
As far as the male/female.....I don't know how to tell visually, but here's my experience. I originally wanted about 5-6 Bangs, but after the first one, I could never keep another one alive. They either kept disappearing or I would find them dead in a day or two. Finally, I had one other make it, so I had two. After some research I learned that a male will not normally tolerate another male in his teritory. So I came to the conclusion that maybe the others that died were males, and this last one was a female...
It all made sense, because the original one was bigger than all of those that I lost, and then when I put the last one in, it was like "love". He never messed with her at all.

Oh yeah, and telling them apart now is NO PROBLEM. The male's jaw has been stretched from carrying those babies. There is no error in knowing now which one is the male and which one is the female....

I replied to your email about the Elegance and let's see if that comes through. The one I sent earlier had a different subject. So far neither has bounced back either.

Thanks premilove.....I'm just trying to keep them alive at this point. So far, they are all still there.

Cool Dude!!! You know it does seem to be pretty fertile at your house.....

You seem to make a pretty good grand dad!
One thing about it, if these little guys make it it will help offset the 2 bills you spent the other day. SO what all did you get?

Most notably, an aussie elegance, tons of snails (they were half off basically), a c. clam, and a rather large diamond goby.
Got home from church today and the cat is awol for a good 15 mins. This is the first time she has ventured out since having the kittens. I don't know if she ran out for another 'quickie' or what. The vet bus lady told me to wait to call her back at 6 weeks. I don't know how they expect me to keep her from getting prego again. I'm not bringing her in the house.

I hope your tank is covered. Diamond gobies are the coolest fish, but they are also real good jumpers. I had a glass cover on my tank, with about 2" uncovered in the back. I found half of it when I stepped on it. I have seen where others have had their tank covered with egg crate and it jumped through the openings.
You know with all of this raising of critters on your place, and you showing your soft side and all, you won't be having to put any post it notes on the steering wheel......

How are your the little fish doing?

That reminds me, I think I'll go put a "post it" in her van tonight when I go out to feed the dog. It's been a hectic day, and since I probably can't get Mr. Spidey to honk his horn when he goes by my house, that will brighten her day tomorrow.
I never did put the glass tops on that came with the tank (too much heat trapped in), and I did have eggcrate on, but took it off a couple of months ago because it was such a pain in the behind to maneuver everyday when I feed the fish. But I had already thought about putting them back on. The tank is really deep though, and he stays way down there, in the rocks. And boy is causing such a mess. The tank has stayed cloudy, and tonight I noticed a rather large rock that has shifted and fallen to the bottem. It didn't mess up any corals and landscape is still okay, but tells me that I must not have seated something all the way on the bottom on set up. I'm keeping an eye on the situation.
So far, I have not found any dead babies. They are still in the breeder box in the DT. I have fed cyclopeez and tried mysis and brine, but I can't tell if they are eating or not. I'm thinking of moving the whole breeder box downstairs to the 55 in a couple of days. There's nothing in the tank but cc and lr, and there's very little flow. My only concern is the water quality and the transition of babies.

Dude that cracked me up! I can imagine the look she would give you when you tell her to go outside and listen for the truckers to blow their horns.
Good idea to stick with the Post its.
I may be jumping the gun here, but do you have a store you can sell them to, are you going to offer them for sale here?????
BTW did you see my thread in the aquarium about our two, yes that is right 2, pregnant foster dogs?

My first thought was that I couldn't figure out how hubby would be driving in your direction tomorrow

I told wifey about that story. But I don't think Jim is going to start a trend here. I'm so far off the nearest Hwy that I wouldn't have a chance, but I won't forget the story.
I have not checked on selling them to a lfs. If they do make it, I would just rather trade them to someone for some corals or fish. Tonight's update....they are all still alive. I have one that's kind of lingering around the bottom of the box, but he's still kickin'. I mixed about 20 gal. of sw tonight to do a big water change in the 55 within the next day or two. After everything settles, I think I'm going to move them all to the 55. Only problem is, I'm leaving Fri. for the weekend with the Scouts to Uwharrie for a backpacking trip. So delima is: wait until I return (they might all be dead), or leave wife with the responsibilities of two tanks. She would have a breakdown if they all die on her while I'm gone.
