How long do they live?

How long do astrea snails live? It seems like quite a few of mine have been dying recently but everything else in the tank seems pretty healthy. I wonder if they only live about 7 or 8 months?
Does anyone know?

ive had 2 of my snails for quite along time..one of them ive had for about a year and hes still cruising about and eating..yet ive also had a few that die shortly after being introduced to the tank...so maybe u get a few bad snails every now and then that just werent healthy, stressed, etc

If astrea snails fall off the glass, can they flip themselves over or are they helpless and will die if left overturned?

on sand they are pretty much doomed if you dont flip them up right unless they can reach a rock or glass where they fell, on crushed coral sometimes they can right themselves, on barebottom or rubble bottom tank they are fine.

They live in the range of 10 - 12 years. Typically the ones for sale are 3 or 4 years old already so I'd expect to get another 6 or 7 years out of them after purchase.

I still have 6 of my original 10 that were purchased in August 2000.

:scared: WOW, don't mean to hijack the thread but i'm curious, what about the lifespan of turbo snails? (i have the "zebra kind) I don't have any of my origanal turbo snails but i still have my 4 bumble-bee snails. (my tank is a year old) :notsure:

The problem with common names is that multiple species can fit the same common name.
When I hear "Turbo Snail" I picture an Astreae. When I hear Mexican TurboGrazer I think of the large Turbin Snails. The Turbin snails found in the hobby can live 20 - 25 years in cooler water. At reef temperatures they live 5 or 6 years in my experience.
