How many people over 30 work out regularly?

Okay, I guess I am sensitive, and self conscience. Once when I was at work I had to run the store, I had a bandanna on my head and some teens made a rude comment about Aunt Jamimma.
I turned around and looked at them. They buried their heads laughing. That really hurt my feelings, I would never go to a public place to work out.
I have friends who echo the same sentiment. Being self conscience is why many teens won’t take a shower in school and either cut the class or make excuses not to attend.
It really is a big problem. Self esteem is the underlying reason for obesity in America.
I was never made fun of in school; I didn't gain weight until I started having children. The incident at the store is as close as I ever came to such cruelty. However I watched what it did to other kids.
In the end.. Allot of people who need the gyms the most, don't go.
As to your last statement, I'd say that a large part of the REASON that they need the gym is BECAUSE they don't go. It's circular logic.
I think my original statement was pretty insensitive in hindsight. I often see larger individuals at the gym and in my head I applaud them for trying to change and become healthier. The point, (which I didn't do a very good job of making), was that when I see them, I don't believe that they are the people to emulate because they have made a long term commitment to staying/becoming fit. Right or wrong, I typically think that they seem to be people trying to make a change and not necessarily people who have done a great job at devoting their adult lives towards staying fit.

Granted they didn't devote
their lives to staying fit... Maybe they devoted their lives to raising their children, going to work, running a household or serving God.
Really now, devoted?? Even Arnold the terminator guy (I can't spell his last name), found something else to do with his life. Wanting to be healthy to live a longer life I can understand, but devoted???
When I got home after working all day, I had to make the dinner, help the kids with homework, get the children bathed, and put to bed… make my husband happy. Between caring for the fish tank, feeding the cat, walking the dog and a few moments to take my own bath, just to do it all over again the next day. Weekends were for laundry and cleaning house. My husband wanted a big breakfast since I wasn’t going to work on the weekend. I am sure you get the idea.
I admit, I was just not devoted enough to staying fit. I was devoted to living my life. Now the kids are grown, I have time. Now I am fat and out of shape and too self conscience to attend a gym. I work out at home so the devoted ones can't see me.
I know you mean no harm. We older individuals have a reason for the shape we are in, and it not because we are not "devoted" we are devoted, we are working hard. Now I spend all day at the computer or watching TV because I am tired. After how I have run and worked for the last 30 odd years non stop, I am just too lazy to put my fanny on a treadmill regularly in a devoted to health way.

I'm with you. A part of the reason that this is a struggle for me is that I work 60 hours per week, spend as much time as possible with my wife and kids, take care of the house, the fish tanks and dogs and want a bit of time to just relax. However working out has always been a part of my life until recently. I wanted to hear from the people who can maintain all of this and are able to keep a regular exercise schedule. It's good to know that there are people in this thread who have been able to do this. Knowing this helps to motivate me.

I agree, this is mean and cruel. Atleast stick somewhat in the last couple decades and call you Bret Michaels.

Who is Bret Michaels??? You know what made me feel better afterwards?
I was making over $21.00 hr and just making a run to the store, those kids were high school dropouts. I can laugh too.
