I have A 90g fish only w/ 100lbs of live rock....wet/dry, protien skimmer, and good water movement.... I have 2 clowns and a firegoby.... Im really wanting to do a small school of 3 blue hippo tangs... get all 3 at the same time, most likely the med. size ones on here... I just wanted to find out if that was a BAD idea??? and if is... give me another idea or two..
Thanks

You could do maybe 2 or 3 (dending on other fish, LR, tank conditions) small Yellow tangs, they like to school....for a year or 2....if you absolutley had to have tangs.
.....3 Blue hippos even small = bad idea...they like large open areas

SGT. Sw65galma - Tang Police, If he can have three yellows in a 90gl can I have one in a 75gl? lfs guy told me no on a yellow, but he's the same guy who sold me yellow for my 55gl years ago. He would be with a pair of clowns, and 100lbs lr.

As long as you got a smaller one...I would say he'd be ok...Mine gets along great with my clowns..

Oh an one last thing for the both of you....with ANY TANGS...Get a grounding probe....They are very very sensitve to Any stray voltage...They will develop HLLE and Die...The grounding probe can be purchased here and ties into Your electrical Plugs and takes any voltage out of the tank.

Even if I bought a small one, wouldn't he still get bigger? I won't be able to upgrade for 3-4 years.

I'll have to look into the ground probe. Though I remember asking about feeling stray voltage before and I was told it was okay.... :notsure: Wondering if my clown didn't kill my tang...but the tang showed no sign of being sick.

It goes in the water anywhere and connects to the gorund on your outlet..usually the screw or some look like plugs that just have the center round probe.

Hey there sw65galma and dogstar...any Tang ideas for a 215 gallon reef? What would YOU do Tang wise with a 72 inch long, 24 inch deep and 28 inch tall tank? I am transfering my 125 gallon reef into the 215 and have a blue hippo, blonde naso and yellow now...want to add a powder brown, then an atlantic blue and then maybe a powder blue LAST. But I'd also really like to have a few of the same fishy...like 4 yellows or 3 blue hippos...what do you recommend as my MAX for tangs in the 215?
current fishies that also occupy the 125 and will be moved to the 215:
2 false percs
diamond goby
lawnmower blenny
green mandarin dragonet
4 green chromis
4 blue reef chromis
3 yellow damsels
flame angel
(plus the blue hippo, yellow and blonde naso tangs)
Also, is the powder blue THAT bad of an idea? even if i add him last? would it make a difference if the blonde naso was of the 7 to 10 inch variety and the others were 5 to 6 inches and the powder blue was smaller? ive heard they are VERY teritorial and will just cause problems. I hope not though, cus i want my powder brown and powder blue! lol
so again, how would YOU stock it?
and do you guys have GOOD success with sailfins and yellows? I had a purple tang when i got the blue hippo and had to get rid of the purple. he did NOT like the hippo at all. with all the tangs ive mentioned, in what order would you add them?
thanks for the time folks!!
