New tanks that leak are pretty rare. Its the used tanks you acquire or a tank thats been moved around a lot or put up and taken down numerous times over the years thsat you have to watch. I had one tank out of the many dozens of tanks I have owned that leaked and it was a freebie, which was used for a snake cage, to terrarium, to kids using it for keeping various critters etc in. I set it up in the gazeebo to fool with some small bass fingerlings, and within 2 months it started to seep at one joint. Tank wa probably close to 20 years old at that point. I rubbed a bar of soap in the joint outside the tank and it stopped the leak almost imediately, and held for a long time afterwards until I got arond to cutting out old silicone and resealing it..I just do not think leaky new tanks are all that common.

I have 3 freshwater tanks that I have had set up for 10+ years that have survived two moves and one did recently spring a leak for apparently no reason. I'm also worried that my 55 gallon saltwater may leak.
