120g with 40g sump and 500w MH and 220w VHO.
I do add 1 1/2 gallons a day but I am getting an ATO by JBJ because I am sick to add all that water every day.

It looks really cool, it it works properly, what kind of resevoir do you plan on using? and how would you prevent DUST amongst other things from getting into the resevoir?

actually, after i posted i remembered that my water was down a couple inches when my salinity was that high. i put in 3 gallons of water slowly over the course of the day and got it down (and topped off the tank at the same time)
when i got the tank, i got a glass cover that partially covers the tank. would the water temp go up too much if i used it to prevent evaporation? i haven't put it on yet, but was wondering.

I think if you are running higher light, like halides, the canopies aren't a good idea. It can heat up your tank. I started with CFs and I didn't use my canopies for them either because I wanted by open surface area for o2 exhange. I also run a good bit of surface agitation which would probably increase salt creep growth on the canopy which would not allow light to penetrate as effectively and that would be something else I would have to clean.

i assume you mean 2x250. if not where do you get 500's
as far as canopy goes they will not effect you gas exchange at all. matter a fact it might even help it due to the added heat causing more evap. the heat can be taken care of no problem with a good chiller.
the glass covers however are not a good idea

i know you can run 1000 but i have never seen 500's

Yep, 2x250 halides!
I really wasn't sure about the gas exchange and I didn't want to run a chiller and I am glad my fans keep the temp stable. So why are you saying the glass covers aren't a good idea?

200g with 60g sump 2x400w mh with 384 vho and I lose about 1 gallon a day. My canopy is 18" high with 3 fans blowing in and my temp change during the day and night is about 1 1/2 degrees. I thought I was losing alot of water! I'd say I'm doing pretty good

55g w/10g sump, MH 2x150 with T5 2x54, I lose a little over a gallon a day. Of course, I haven't gone through the hot season here in AZ with this setup, so I'll probably lose more come summer.
