Ill count how much it will coust for the 3 tank thing and how much the 50 gallon tank things are going to be like lighting and pumps and sand ect, and at least my 3 gallon tank thing will be good because it will be EXTREMLY CLEAN. I bet that the 3 tank think will be a lot cheaper than making a 50 gallon tank into a reef tank because ill ne MH for the 50 gallon tank so thats going to be at least $1,000+ for the lighting so i think the 20 gallon thing will be a lot cheaper.

Generally, the rule is 3.5 watts per gallon, whether it be VHO, PC's or MH to keep majority of the softies. Clams and few others that really need a higher intensity, can get by with them as well but they need to be placed at a higher level in the tank so that the mantel and the corals can absorbe the light. Stoney corals need around 5.5 watts per gallon and with that you can house nearly them all other than carnations that need no or low light. simply place those underneath a dark crevice. Adding softies and SPS/LPS sometimes causes a "coral war" in the tank due to the fact that most softies are little more potent to the average lps/sps except to like firecoral or galaxia which have a powerfull sting even to humans. Softies, like other corals send out pheremones in the water. Other corals smell it and go into DEFENSE and start whipping out stinging tentacles that wipe out other corals around. you can generally see it in the daytime with maze brains and the like. Back onto subject, 3.5 watter per gallon to 4 will do just fine.

i paid $415 for my Current USA Sunpod 48" 2X150h 14000k MH's with 18 lunar lights. $1000+ dollers on a 48" fixture would be a waste of money!

You need the same type of lighting for anemones and frags on a 10 gallon or a 50. Your way you will have to buy two light setups....

You take size of your tank and divide it by how many watts your light system is and thats how you tell. Since i am not sure what lighting you are gettng, i dont know but you can do the math.

I would say you would be safe with 3.5 to 4/ as ar as what kind of lighting, thats up to you and what you can afford. Problem is i dont see a small enough lighting system in my dealer book that would fit onto a 20 without heating the tank. 65 watts divided by the 20 gallon is 3.25...close enough and with that i wouls say just zoos and a few softies and MAYBE a monti..maybe

I know it souds crazy...but it's true. I had an Atlantic Condy Anemone in my 90 gallon for 2 years. 4x110 VHO's. That guy would set up in a new spot every couple of days. One day I looked in and he was gone. NOWHERE. I basically tore the tank apart looking for him. 2 weeks later I go to clean the sponge in my WD and he was in the bottom of the sump.
I kept him for a few more weeks then released him during a trip to Big Pine Key.
