I have 4 fish and was wondering if i was overfeeding. My sand gets extremely dirty almost black. I do a 10 percent water change every 2 weeks. I feed every other day a 3.5 oz cube of either krill or mysis shrimp.
54 gal tank, with skimmer and fluval 305
2 clowns
1 psuedochromis
1 pajama cardinal
30 snails...10 cerith, 10 nass, 10 astrea

5 blue leg snails
5 red leg snails

In my 54G I have 2 clowns, 1 flame hawk, 1 firefish, 1 sixline for fish
I have 1 pep shrimp, 2 emerald crabs, 1 sally, snails (who knows how many) longfin sleeper goby
I feed 1 cube mysis, and 1 cube brine w/spirulina each day...and a pinch of flake and pellets one - two times a week for snacks in the evenings.
I don't think you are feeding too much.....maybe too little

I don't think you are overfeeding. I am an everyday feeder but I don't give much. The fish will always look like they are hungry so don't feed just because they are acting like they want to eat. I just try to monitor what each fish eats to some degree to make sure everyone is getting something. The orange spotted goby is the one I really have to watch out for since it stays on the sandbed and most of the other fish gobble up everything before it hits bottom.

it just seems that my sand is always dirty. I want nice clean white sand and mine seems to turn black a few days after a water change. I know people say dont mix up the sand but i do vacuum it lightly. I just did a water change a2 days ago and it is coming back. Maybe i need to change filter media more often. Should i change it every water change? I have been altering between that and rinsing ceramic rings and changing carbon?
Maybe i need more nassurius snails? or a sand sifting goby?

Sand sifting starfish ...

They will eat all the fauna (right word?) out of your sand.

One of my favorites. I have had mine for years and he even survived after everything else died. I want another but my LFS never gets them in anymore.

I think they are seasonal...LOL SWF had them last week, but I just checked and they are out :(
Right now SWF has a special going on.,...no minimum order amount required, and 10% extra off everything :)

The last two times my buddy and I have placed an order together, I have looked for the conch and it was OOS. I need to just ask the LFS to get me one when they can. I just looked on Doctors and they are OOS there too.
One line in their description is
The Fighting Conch is a very hardy member of the Strombidae family.
I agree with that!!

It will be fine.....you can get a smaller one and let it grow.....I have one in my 29G :)
I would even put the large ones SWF sells in my 54G.....

What type of water are you using for your water changes? Using unfiltered tap water could be causing this.
